Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Certificate or Associate Degree as a dental assistant/technician from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA) and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
- Certification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
- Certification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
- 36 months experience within the preceding 60 months as a dental assistant in a private practice or a military clinic.
- Membership in good standing with the American Association of Dental Assistants with required continuing education and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
- Graduation from a state-accredited program for dental assistants or dental technology within the preceding 12 months.
- Minimum 6 months experience as a dental assistant, or 6 months military dental assistant training and experience.
Experience with taking dental radiographs, maintaining dental equipment, and assisting dentist in patient treatment.
- Must comply with health requirements such as immunizations and annual TB screening.
- Estimated yearly salary of $48,000.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform duties in providing assistance in one or more phases of complex/difficult restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgical, endodontic, or periodontal treatment.
- Receive and schedule patients for treatment.
- Obtain and record related medical history of patients. Chart examination and treatment information. Record information on prescriptions.
- Sterilize instruments, materials, and equipment; prepare surgical trays. Maintain dental equipment in a clean and operative condition.
- Assist dentist at chairside. Perform intra-oral procedures as directed by the dentist. Take preliminary impressions for study models, remove sutures, place and remove rubber dams, perio-packs, matrix bands, and wedges.
- Relay dentist’s instructions to patients for post-treatment care. Instruct patients in proper dental techniques, care of appliances, and causes of dental decay.
- Operate dental X-ray equipment to take intra- and extra-oral radiographs. Maintain, clean, and perform minor repairs on X-ray equipment and materials.
- Pour and trim models from impressions, and construct custom impression trays. Maintain a variety of recurring reports related to dental activities.
