Participate in the dental treatment of patients by performing all aspects of hygiene including examining teeth and educating patients about proper oral hygiene. Takes and develops radiographs and assists Dentist with patient care in accordance with and as prescribed by the State of Wisconsin.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Works closely with dentists to carry out recommended clinical treatments, such as scaling and polishing to prevent and control periodontal (gum) disease.
- Participates in the dental treatment of patients by performing dental prophylaxis, applying topical fluorides, examining teeth, and assisting dentist with procedures, as required.
- Makes radiographs and processes, as well as evaluates developed radiographs.
- Administers some minor treatments under the supervision of the dentist.
- Performs charting of patient's needs, presenting problem(s), medical and dental health history, tooth charting, and review social history.
- Review treatment recommendations with patients and manages patient hygiene regimen.
- Takes and records vital signs, prior to rendering dental care.
- Assist in the development of prevention programs for patients.
- Shares with maintenance and sterilization duties.
- Attends office training and meetings along with continuing education classes.

- Capable of managing patient flow effectively with providers, staff members, and patients in fast paced environment.
- Able to follow and apply established office policies and procedures.
- Ability to relate well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to have empathy for patients and to treat them with dignity and respect, in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to manage patient flow in a fast paced clinic environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours in order to meet patient care needs/demands.
- Knowledge of anesthetic given and procedures, for both children and adults.
- Knowledge of universal precautions and blood borne pathogens
- Ability to document clearly, patient vital signs and chief complaint, as well as pay close attention to charting detail
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Must be a graduate from an accredited college or university Dental Hygiene program. Currently licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin. Previous hygiene experience preferred, with experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center a plus.
