What you will be doing:
- Disassembling medical equipment and instruments for decontamination
- Operate equipment to clean, disinfect, and decontaminate surgical instruments, medical devices, and equipment.
- Unpack, check, and stock new equipment, instruments, and devices.
- Respond to emergency supply requests during surgical procedures.
- Maintain accurate records/logs of when items undergo sterilization or maintenance.
- Maintain proper pre-set trays and ensure they are ready for anticipated procedures.
- Ensure instruments are sterilized as soon as feasible when received into the sterilization room.
- Decontaminate and sterilize instruments, dental supplies, and equipment, and assemble, wrap, and sterilize trays of instruments.
- Ensure instruments and surgical trays are clean, sterile, assembled, and ready prior to procedures.
- Follow proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
- Keep accurate logs of spore testing.
- Maintain cleanliness and order of all areas of sterilization.
- Maintain familiarity with and comply with OSHA standards and infection control procedures.
- Check sterile items for substitution needs by replacing damaged, expired, or missing instruments.
- Restock and maintain an inventory of dental supplies and instruments to assure a constant level is always available.
- Communicate to the Office Manager any supplies that need replenishing or replacement.
- Maintain inventory by rotating, sorting, wrapping, packaging, and appropriately labeling instruments and supplies.
- Insert sterilization indicators inside all packages and report any lost instruments to appropriate staff.
- Monitor autoclaves for proper temperatures and ensure repair orders are reported to supervisors or representatives responsible for escalated maintenance.
- Ensures proper instrumentation circulation by coordinating repairs, sharpening, and removing instrumentation that requires repair services.
- Perform regular preventative maintenance including as lubricating parts, deep cleans, and safety checks.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What you will need:
- Knowledge of OSHA standards.
- Familiarity with dental instruments and equipment preferred.
- Must be DANB certified or willing to pursue certification.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with sterilization equipment.
- Strong analytical skills to ensure compliance with sterilization protocols.
- Manual dexterity to handle small instruments and tools with precision.
- Good visual acuity to inspect instruments and read sterilization indicators.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Occasionally lift and move equipment or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to manipulate tools and operate equipment.
