NATURE OF WORK
This position provides direct comprehensive general dental care and education to eligible Nisqually direct and contract care patients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Perform annual exams to diagnose dental diseases.
•Provide general dental care services to correct or treat dental diseases and deficiencies.
•Provide urgent care services to patients to relieve pain, bleeding, and swelling.
•Evaluate, construct, and insert prosthodontics appliances for patients.
•Make referrals to appropriate sources for specialized care and monitor through follow-up.
•Provide dental health education to patients, families, and Nisqually Health Clinic staff.
•Supervise the chair-side dental assistants.
•Prescribes medication appropriate for treating the patient and their dental disease.
•Supervise chair-side dental assistants during delivery of patient care.
•Provide care according to Tribal and IHS Direct and Contract Health Care guidelines.
•Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
•Knowledge of Native American customs, traditions, and culture.
•Knowledge of dental restorative, endodontic, periodontic and oral surgery practices and procedures.
•Skill and ability in treatment using crowns and bridges.
•Ability to perform child and adult prophys, OHI, fluorides, and the placement of sealants and rubber dams.
•Ability to interact courteously and professionally with patients of all ages.
•Knowledge of current home care instructions and the ability to communicate them effectively to patients.
•Knowledge, skill, and ability necessary to provide care to specific age groups served in assigned area.
•Ability to use established procedures for exposure to blood borne pathogens and body fluids.
•Ability to use established procedures for working around x-rays and handling and disposing of sharps.
•Ability to use proper operatory safety procedures.
•Ability to follow facility policies and attend in-services as appropriate.
•Ability to use established procedures in handling and disposing of infectious materials, mercury, lead, and hazardous chemicals.
•Knowledge of standard dental operatory equipment and instruments, including various hand pieces, dental x-ray units, magna clave, kavoclave, dentronix, x-ray developer, panorex machine, and ultrasonic.
•Knowledge of routine office equipment including computer.

•Ability to work in confined areas and with small instruments and materials.
QUALIFICATIONS
•Graduation from an accredited school of dentistry.
•A minimum of 3 years' experience in general dentistry.
•Current license to practice dentistry in the State of Washington.
•Current registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
•Current National Provider Identifier number.
•Current CPR certification.
•Must have a valid Washington State driver`s license and be insurable under the Nisqually Indian Tribe`s insurance policy.
