The Department of Waste Resources is offering a paid internship opportunity. The intern will assist staff in creating engaging social media content (including photography and educational videos) about environmental issues, sustainability, and waste reduction. The intern will also help develop social media calendars and campaigns and strategize ways to grow awareness and the online presence of the Department. During community outreach events and classes, the intern will provide information and resources to the public regarding waste management and sustainability. They will actively participate in program/event planning and facilitate its coordination. Additionally, the intern will support staff and volunteers in resource garden care, outreach efforts, and other programming. The intern will gain knowledge of solid waste and recycling regulations, such as AB 341, AB 1826, and SB 1383.
This professional student internship position is based in Riverside with a flexible work week consisting of approximately 20-40 hours per week. The selected candidate can anticipate the internship to span from 6 months to one-year in length.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Data gathering
- Developing and maintaining data spreadsheets
- Compliance assistance with State mandated environmental programs
- Developing website and social media content
- Developing online outreach projects related to waste reduction
- Creating materials related to waste reduction for social media outlets
- Supporting community outreach efforts, providing excellent customer service
- Gaining knowledge of environmental issues, solid waste and recycling regulations and local government operations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average : 2.5 GPA required. Proof of most current unofficial/official transcript with cumulative GPA must be provided at time of application .
Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled/attending school at an accredited college or university, in a Certificate, Bachelor's or Master's degree program or preparing to transfer to a Bachelor's program during the entire duration of the internship. R ecent college graduates are eligible to intern for up to one year (twelve months) from their graduation date. Graduation date is not to exceed a twelve month maximum during the duration of the internship.
Areas of Study : Communications, Marketing, Journalism or similar; Public or Business Administration, Human Resources, Organizational Studies or similar; Information Technology, Computer Science, or similar; Sustainability, Environmental Studies or similar; Arts or Humanities
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experienced in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
- Experienced in utilizing Adobe Create Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat etc.)
- Familiarity with environmental programs, climate change or climate science
- Experience with Canva software
- Spanish speaker
