Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicates effectively, professionally and courteously with the public in person, on the telephone, and in writing. Assists customers with court procedures, citations, payments, bonds, and warrants.
- Responds to requests for information within the scope of authority and training.
- Process mail requests and payments.
- Assists in the administration of the Municipal Court in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas and the City ordinances, with prudence and integrity and in an impartial manner.
- Inputs a variety of court transactions including traffic, parking, and general citation information into the computer system; creates case files and prepares cases for court; processes judicial decisions and case dispositions.
- Prepares court dockets and arraignment documents; update and maintain various schedules and notifications for police, code enforcement, and animal control officers along with the attorney appearances in court.
- Creates, updates and tracks a variety of electronic and paper files, records, applications, reports, calendars, and technical documents; researches issues as requested.
- Collects, posts, and balances fines, fees and bonds, and accurately reconciles daily cash transactions using court-specific computer software; reviews and verifies accounting records.
- Maintains and monitors court records and citations filed in court cases.
- Processes bonds and delinquent citations for issuance of warrants.
- Prepares and processes court summons.
- Assists Judge and Prosecutor with court proceedings as assigned.
- Maintains the absolute confidentiality of all records and information.
- Daily imaging of court documents into the court software.
- Responds outside of normally scheduled work hours in response to special events, natural disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by the City.
- Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the City by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
- Cross trains and rotates duties with other Deputy Court Clerks.
- Cooperates with co-workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently and effectively.
- Has regular, predictable attendance; attendance is a factor in continued employment with the City.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND two year’s technical clerical experience, preferably in a Municipal Court, law enforcement or criminal justice agency; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Must have a valid driver license prior to employment. (Must obtain Texas Class C driver license within 30 days of hire per State law.)
- Must obtain Level I certification in the TMCEC Municipal Court Clerk Certification Program within two (2) years of employment and maintain certification.
Required Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures.
- Court functions, procedures, and policies of Municipal Courts.
- Texas Transportation Code, Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedures, Corinth City Ordinances, court procedures, and legal terminology.
- Principles of basic bookkeeping, filing, record keeping and records management.
- Customer service standards and protocols.
Required Skill in:
- Excellent customer service, able to deal tactfully and courteously with individuals seeking information about Court functions.
- Cash handling.
- Maintaining complex official records.
- General office procedures and operation of standard office equipment, operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software, including Microsoft Office products.
- Typing with speed and accuracy (40 correct words per minute preferred), and maintaining electronic files.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationship with co-workers and the general public.
- Effective communication, both verbal and written in a professional manner.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Ability to lift/carry twenty-five (25) pounds, bending, stooping, and reaching as needed to file; sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
- Work is performed in a standard office environment.
