About the Job
I. SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Supervises and Manages Senior Piping Designers, Piping Designers and Drafters for
all phases of mechanical design and drafting work.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Makes recommendations with regard to hiring/firing subordinate Sr. Designers/
Designers/Drafters
• Evaluates performance of and disciplines subordinate Sr. Designers/
Designers/Drafters
• Supervises and directs the work of the Piping Design and Drafting Department
• Development of layouts and incorporation of project specifications
• Provides Piping Design Leads with the correct resources to ensure quality and
timeliness of deliverables
• Reviews work of Piping Design Leads to maintain quality standards and good work
practices
• Assists in estimating, planning schedules and setting manpower requirements for
projects.
• Subject matter expert plant layout and design
• Maintains and promotes a focus on Polaris's products whether engineering, fabrication
or construction
• Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines and effective
management of change
• Assumes responsibility for schedule and budget control on project scope for
piping/mechanical design
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Associate degree (2-year) in computer drafting/design required
• 15+ years specializing in piping design for Refining, Gas Processing or LNG projects
• 3 years experience coordinating Piping Design personnel
• Mastered current piping design and drafting responsibilities and software packages
• Demonstrates a broad technical knowledge of design concepts and systems
• 10+ years AutoCAD experience required
• Typically has 8+ years of progressive experience in plant layout, piping design, design
modeling and drafting as a Design Lead
• Available for short-term travel
IV. REPORTING REQUIREMENTS:
Reports to the Mechanical Department Engineer Manager
V. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Able to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding
• Able to walk in and around industrial facilities
• Able to see and hear safety warning and alarms
• Able to lift 40 pounds
