Design Director, Care and Clinical Delivery - Remote - Included Health
San Francisco, CA 94199
About the Job
At Included Health, we’re on a mission to raise the standard of healthcare for everyone. We’re a new kind of healthcare company, focused on breaking down barriers to provide high-quality care for every person in every community. We offer guidance, advocacy, and access to personalized care for urgent care, primary care, behavioral health, and specialty care. We’re especially focused on increasing access to high-quality and culturally competent providers that can raise care equity for the LGBTQ+ community, Black Americans and other communities who have been historically disenfranchised and underserved in the US healthcare system.
Our team
We’re a tight-knit, collaborative team of Product Designers, Content Writers, and Researchers, working in close partnership with our Product Management, Engineering and Data teams. We’re passionate about improving the health and lives for our members, and transforming the confusing and archaic health system.
You!
Included Health is currently hiring a Design Director to help us create a best-in-class clinical care experience for members that breaks away from traditional healthcare norms. Your team will focus on the experience around the delivery of care: virtual visits, labs, prescriptions, practice management, etc. Your team is tasked with:

- Scaling the practice and efficiency of care delivery through automation, workflow design, and data integration.

You are an experienced Design leader who builds effective teams that drive impact to the business. You inspire your direct reports and cross-functional product teams under your leadership to go beyond expected solutions and take ownership for the member experience. You are able to see the 30,000 ft view but also provide hands-on design guidance to your team.
You build effective partnerships with product managers, engineers, front-line support and other stakeholders across the organization. Your clear communication and accessible vision brings people together to realize a common goal of improving the experience for real people. You have a particular passion for building strong services through backend systems such as enterprise or clinician facing tools.. You see yourself as an organizational leader, not just a Design leader.
Requirements:
- A body of work that clearly demonstrates insight, empathy, and an ability to develop new products/services, as well as scale existing products/services.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in design, with an emphasis on shipping useful, usable, and powerful professional tools.
- Minimum 5 years of experience hiring and managing Design teams.
- Passionate advocacy for high-quality design, execution, and implementation of enterprise, support, or B2B apps.
- Experience developing, testing, and refining concepts based on research, insights, and business priorities.
- Comfort managing large initiatives from inception through execution. Able to see the broader picture while delighting in the quality and nuance of the specifics.
- Strong grounding and interest in business strategy. The ability to connect Design outcomes to business outcomes and make balanced trade-offs based on both business and user experience needs.
- Compelling communication capabilities. You understand that telling the story or our work is one of the most impactful parts of what we do.
- Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with Product, Engineering, Data Science partners and other stakeholders in an organization.
Bonus Points:
- Experience shipping enterprise or clinician facing tools, or in the B2B2C space.
- Experience leading Design Sprints to explore and define new product offerings.
- Real passion for medical and health care services, and a belief that technology can transform how we access and utilize healthcare.
Physical/Cognitive Requirements:
- Prompt and regular attendance at assigned work location.
- Ability to remain seated in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, computer and other office-related equipment.
