About the Job
Overall Responsibilities:
Responsible for the design and development of mechanical products. Manages the technical design, and redesign of current product lines. Manages all states of the development of new products as well as coordinating modification or design changes in existing product lines.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Integral part of the development cycle, by providing design support to projects and product lines assigned to them
- Lead, mentor, direct project work of Designers.
- Proficiency in computer aided engineering (CAD) or Solid Works, CATIA, or Team center.
- Manage documentation of prints.
- Oversee simulation results to define optimal geometries to meet functional requirements.
- Design and implement experiments (test plans) to validate simulation results.
- Design test fixtures, as necessary, to conduct experiments (in cooperation with test lab).
- With deep appreciation for aesthetics, provide leadership by collaborating with designers to render concepts and designs with fresh perspectives and industry leading features.
- Proactively provide leadership by engaging relevant manufacturing personnel during construction of design validation units.
- Coordinate testing of prototypes and products to validate performance of designs.
- Analyze and develop manufacturable industrial designs and concept drawings.
- Stay abreast of latest technology and techniques to provide designs that are cost effective.
- Engage in all phases of new product development, from conceptualization through first article production.
- Manage all documentation of designs including detail, assembly, and exploded prints.
- ECN / ECO / BOM creation
Characteristics and skills:
- Proficient in computer aided engineering (CAD) or Solid Works, CATIA, or Team Center.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to operate related office equipment, such as computers and copiers.
- Ability to work independently and in a demanding environment.
- Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally with customers.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Educational and other requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates or bachelor's degree in engineering.
- SME or BSMET preferred.
- Solid background in CAD solid modeling experience in a manufacturing setting with Solid works, CATIA or Team center.
- Must be an initiative-taker capable of working both independently, as well as part of a team.
- At least two years of related experience required.
- A true "collaborative" leader that embraces the idea that he/she is the "go-to" person.
