About the Job
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.)
Design Engineering:
- Translates customer needs to functional product development solutions.
- Designs, develops, and maintains component, subsystem, and assembly level product designs for existing and new product lines.
- Strong capabilities in Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical engineering required.
- Embedded software development exposure is a strong benefit, but not required.
- Responsible for the generation and approval of product development and verification documentation.
- Making tradeoffs between technical attributes of product design including function, aesthetics, cost, material selection, and manufacturability.
Project Management:
- Plans and manages multiple intermediate product development and continuing engineering projects simultaneously.
- Creates schedules and milestones based on customer and company needs.
- Communicates with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and direct customers on product specifications, and other technical matters at a project or program level.
- Develops project cost, quality, and resource estimates.
- Works collaboratively with vendors on technical matters related to product design.
- Provides clear and concise communication and information relating to project status.
Quality Assurance:
- Generates quality systems and project related documentation as needed. (i.e. FMEA, DHF documents, work orders, charters).
- Understands and follows engineering related and overall company processes.

Other Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrates design, documentation, materials selection, design for manufacturing, process management, and troubleshooting/problem solving skills.
- Demonstrates interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrates good communication skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint)
- Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools (including 3D modeling) and Product Data Management (PDM) software. CREO & Windchill or similar experience highly preferred.
- Experience with Tolerance loop or geometric tolerance stack up techniques.
- Experience with the following processes of ISO 9001.
- Experience with manufacturing processes including injection molding, machining, and mechanical assembly.
- Prefer related medical device development experience.
- Prefer experience with LabView software and test stand development.
- Prefer experience with Embedded software development utilizing C++ and Linux.
- Regular attendance is required for the ability to complete all work.
- Requires face-to-face interaction with team members, peers and management to complete work and provide support.
- May be required to occasionally travel between Coralville Iowa headquarters and the Kalona Iowa manufacturing facility.
- Ability to demonstrate and promote CIVCO Values.
Education and Experience
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (BS) in engineering from a four-year college or university; and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and FDA requirement is preferred.
