What you'll be challenged to do:
Gannett Fleming TranSystems is currently seeking a Design Engineer to join our Lisle, IL office. The candidate will be responsible for managing the design of several transportation projects to take place on the Illinois Tollway system. The successful candidate will have a diverse background in transportation engineering and be capable of coordinating with multiple entities on various concurrent transportation design projects.
Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):
- Perform as a Design Engineer for the Central Tri-State Corridor.
- Provide in-depth quality assurance reviews and analysis of Contract Documents to ensure that plans and specifications are clear and communicate to Tollway issues that may result in potential delays or claims during construction.
- Oversee communication between design and construction.
- Monitor and track schedules, budgets, and performance.
- Oversee and initiate Contract Packaging strategy to provide the Tollway with the most cost efficient and timely delivery of construction contracts.
- Provide coordination of environmental management, permits, and regulatory agencies.
- Manage unbundling of construction contracts when possible to strengthen small business and diversity.
- Perform quality assurance for structural components throughout the corridor.
- Identify, track, compile and present lessons learned from projects throughout the corridor to improve the quality and value of future work.
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelor’s degree in the engineering field (i.e. Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical) required.
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in design and management of transportation engineering projects.
- Registered as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Illinois, or able to aquire licensure within 6 months of hire date.
- Strong communications skills
- Project management and contract administration experience
- Ability to coordinate with multiple design teams on assignments
- Experience in the preparation of plans, specifications and estimates
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and various engineering software systems depending on engineering discipline: AutoCAD; MicroStation/GeoPak; In Roads, Land Desktop, and Civil 3D.

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:
- Experience in the preparation of plans, specifications/CAD standards and estimates for the Illinois Tollway or IDOT.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. Airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc).
