GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The Desktop Support Technician I provides direct support for hardware and software related to Windows, Mac, tablet, and phone devices, including all integrated peripherals, to all Orenco users. This support will be via phone, web app, or in person. Their primary objectives are to ensure a user's satisfaction and the ability to properly operate any machinery or technology Orenco users may have trouble with.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KRA (Key Result Areas):
> Safety/Culture
- Continuously maintains Orenco management's safety, cultural, and professional standards.
- Promotes, encourages, and reinforces a positive safety culture, safe practices, and a safe work environment to all employees.
> Use the Jira helpdesk application frequently as a frontline support triage contact between users and backline support.
> Assist in reviewing, assigning, updating and closing helpdesk tickets for all IT (Information Technology) department support issues/personnel.
> Pass on any feedback or suggestions by customers to the appropriate internal team and log this information in the helpdesk application.
> Identifies hardware and software needed to solve technical requirements of users.
> Ensures user's effective utilization of applications and equipment by providing self-help instructions and diagnostics.
> Assists in the configuration and adaptation of existing applications.
> Downloads, installs, tests and trains on software as needed.
> Provisions user network accounts, connects and tests network connectivity.
> Physically installs and tests all hardware and trains users on its use.
> Proven above average communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical problems, and their resolution, in terminology that non-technical users can understand.
> Consistently displays courteous and customer focused communication skills.
> Adjusts, repairs, and replaces worn or defective components.
> Work to be done during manufacturing business hours, however this position may on occasion work "on-call" outside business hours to support department and business needs as assigned by the department manager. Occasional long hours may be required.
> Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance, time management, and prioritization skills are required.
> Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree preferred. Work, internship, or personal use may be substituted for education on an annualized basis.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- At least one year of related job experience and applicable vocational/technical training preferred.
- Diligent on staying well-read on IT technology topics impacting the position.
- Tech savvy with proven passion for the mastery of computer technology (references provided).
- Well organized, good writing/note taking skills, and high level of attention to detail.
- Customer service oriented.
- Ability to be flexible and adjust to priority changes with little notice and to remain calm during confrontational or high-pressure situations.
- Ability to use sound judgement and follow through in problem solving and decision making processes.
- Must be willing and able to travel if/when business need requires. Must be able to comply with current travel regulations and guidelines of airlines and destination locations.
- Must be able to meet and maintain Orenco's approved driver criteria, a valid drivers license, satisfactory driving record, current insurance on personal vehicle, and meet company insurability requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primarily indoor office environment with extended periods of sitting and viewing computer screens. May include limited time in production areas. Occasional periods of significant physical exertion and frequent standing, stooping, bending, and reaching when transporting, moving, or installing equipment. Travel requirements may include operation of a motor vehicle, airplane travel, and overnight stays in temporary lodging. May include occasional exposure to outside elements, dust, or odors, when working in the production/shop areas.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regular job duties include seeing, speaking, hearing, reading, writing, legible handwriting, keyboarding, prolonged periods of sitting including extended time viewing a computer screen. Intermittent physical activity includes but is not limited to touching, holding, grasping, pushing, pulling, reaching above shoulders and below knees, low back bending, twisting, turning, kneeling, crawling, stooping, squatting. standing, walking, and climbing stairs and ladders. Unassisted light lifting and/or carrying of under 20 lbs. is required. May also include occasional unassisted lifting and/or carrying of up to 50 lbs., lifting and/or carrying over 50 lbs. must be assisted. Operation of a motor vehicle and airplane travel may be required. Travel needs are determined by business need and assigned job tasks and responsibilities. Travel may require the ability to visit project sites that are situated on a variety of developed and undeveloped terrain/locations.
