Northern Star Scouting seeks a seasoned Development Leader to focus on Planned Giving and Major Gift opportunities. In this ambassador role, you will develop and execute fundraising strategies and activities to carry forward the mission and vision of Northern Star Scouting. As a professional you will cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift and planned gift prospects to align supporter interests with the strategic objectives of Northern Star Scouting.
This full-time, exempt position offers a starting annual salary up to $75,000, depending on qualifications. You will be eligible for our generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, employer paid life-insurance, long-term disability and salary continuance, and a retirement savings plan with match. We offer paid time off (equivalent of 16 days annually for new hires) and 11 annual holidays.
Frequent travel within the assigned territory is required. Must maintain a valid driver's license, reliable transportation and motor vehicle insurance. Must be able to work full-time days, some evenings and weekends.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage portfolio of about 75 prospects, focus on qualifying and closing gifts of $10,000 plus.
- Help us cross the finish line on our $35 million Planned Giving Campaign. Work with the Director of Development and campaign committee to organize and create materials and effectively implement campaign strategies.
- Collaborate with the development team to coach, train and develop skills in major gift area.
- Represent Scouting in the community by attending and actively participating in events.
- Write solicitation content and other donor materials as necessary. Maintain donor documentation via eTapestry.
Skills
- Must have the ability to build and empower a volunteer team, ability to build relationships.
- Good project management skills with effective organization and communication ability.
- Comfortable with public speaking, must enjoy building formal and informal relationships,
- Must be able to communicate effectively with top corporate and community leaders.
- Must have experience with proposal development and writing, as well as working knowledge of planned giving vehicles or proven ability to learn.
- Must be goal-oriented, self-starter, team player and problem-solver.
- Must demonstrate a passion for youth programs; creativity and ability to prioritize multiple projects while adhering to deadlines.
Qualifications
- Must be at least age 21 unless prohibited by law.
- Bachelor's degree is required.
- Minimum 3-5 years of building/managing major gifts program; proven record securing and cultivating $10,000+ gifts or equivalent.
- 1-2 years of experience with planned giving and sales management is highly desirable.
- Ability to interface with Northern Star leaders, teams, board members and volunteers.
- Business/management experience, including budget, supervisory, and program development/implementation.
- Experience in Scouting or other youth organization is helpful, though not required.
