The Role
The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) Camp Newman is seeking a passionate and organized Development Manager to play a key role in creating a vibrant and engaging summer camp experience, as well as fostering year-round youth and family engagement for people from all backgrounds (including People of Color, people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, interfaith, and other often underrepresented groups). The Development Manager will be instrumental in supporting and executing the fundraising and development strategy for URJ Camp Newman and its affiliated camps. What You Will Do
The Development Manager reports to the Development Director and is responsible for the following:
Fundraising Strategy & Implementation
Assist in creating and executing fundraising strategies to advance the URJ’s mission of fostering inclusive communities that build confidence and character in young people. Work with both professional and lay camp leadership to ensure alignment with camp goals and objectives.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, community partners, and stakeholders to enhance fundraising efforts and support the camp’s initiatives.
Work with the Marketing team to manage communications related to the camp’s fundraising efforts. This includes event publicity, web content, and the creation of appeals, newsletters, emails, and other materials for donors and prospects.
Assist the Development Director (DD) and Camp Director in managing relationships and coordinating development activities. Ensure effective communication and engagement with key stakeholders to advance fundraising objectives.
Oversee the lay development committee and board giving, providing guidance and support to enhance their contributions and involvement in development activities. Provide excellent customer service to our donors and community.
Administration & data management
Manage the day-to-day administration of all development programs, ensuring donations are acknowledged promptly and accurately. Maintain up-to-date and precise donor records through effective record-keeping processes.
Administer the Donor Database (Salesforce), including configuring the system, managing queries, and generating reports. Analyze donor data to recommend best practices and gain insights into donor patterns to refine engagement strategies.
Collaborate with URJ’s development team to ensure consistency and accuracy in data entry and reporting across departments. Facilitate seamless data management and integration.
Assist in the creation and execution of regular reports (with the Development Director and Camp Directors) related to gifts, campaigns, and targets. Manage grant reporting requirements to ensure compliance and timely submissions.
Provide administrative support for alumni engagement efforts. Streamline and maintain data to build and sustain an active and comprehensive alumni database.
Provide support for the Executive Director (ED), Development Director (DD), and key lay leaders in scheduling, note-taking, and other administrative-related tasks.

Data Management & Administration. Experience in using data management systems to ensure accurate and efficient handling of donor information and fundraising activities. Proficient in fundraising software platforms (e.g., Salesforce) for managing donor records, tracking donations, generating reports, and analyzing data to support strategic decision-making. Capable of tracking grant funds, monitoring expenditures, and providing detailed reports to funders. Ensures accurate documentation and timely reporting to maintain positive relationships with grant-making organizations.
Relationship Management. Demonstrated ability to leverage strong working relationships and influence key stakeholders to support organizational goals. Skilled in inspiring others through meaningful connections, storytelling, and community engagement. Proven customer service skills that complement an honest and ethical approach to fundraising and development. Adept at fostering positive interactions and ensuring a high level of trust and satisfaction among donors and stakeholders.
Passion for URJ & Camping. Demonstrates a deep passion for the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) and camping, inspiring stakeholders, donors, and colleagues through dedicated and enthusiastic work. Exhibits creativity and resilience in overcoming challenges and finding innovative solutions. Able to think outside the box, persevere through obstacles, and a solution-focused outlook.
