This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Serves as a member of the Mission team, providing strategic leadership in financial development, marketing and communication strategies, to advance the YMCAs mission through annual giving, events, government and foundation grants, endowment bequests and gifts and capital campaigns. Assists the President & CEO in positioning the YMCA as a charity of choice for the investment of donations within the local community
ESSENTIAL FUND DEVELOPMENT FUNCTIONS:
- Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
- Directs and coordinates association capital development, annual campaign and endowment programs.
- Serves on the Community Awareness and Sustainability Committees (and other assigned committees) of the Board of Directors. Develops strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels of financial development.
- Develops processes and is actively involved in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects. Maintains database resource file on top community leaders.
- Prepares and coordinates proposals for grants from government sources and private foundations in collaboration with the Director of Operations.
- Develops appropriate fundraising policies and procedures for the association.
- Tracks all gifts and pledges by source and purpose and provides reports as needed.
- Provides training in fundraising. Educates, motivates and provides feedback to individuals related to best practices in the fundraising process.
- Develops communication plans to insure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support. Plans and oversees the association annual meeting, annual reports, newsletters, brochures and reports.
- Represents the association as required by the President & CEO.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL MARKETING FUNCTIONS:
- Develops annual operating goals, objectives and plan for the marketing and communications area. Monitors the achievement of this plan, taking appropriate action to ensure that the goals and objectives are met.
- Develops, produces and distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs, in accordance with membership and marketing plans.
- Maintains the YMCA's presence across all social media
- Develops & edits marketing and communications content to be used in printed, video, and digital media experience in Adobe Photoshop and Premier preferred.
- Establishes contacts with media representatives and writes and submits press releases when appropriate. Maintains updated files of YMCA's media relations (both press and electronic).
- Develops, monitors and administers assigned annual budget and maintains a positive fiscal position.
- Develops effective working relationships with service groups, community organizations and companies. Makes presentations about the YMCA.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises assigned staff and volunteers. Provides development and leadership.
- Provides and maintains related statistics and reports.
- May plan and coordinate special events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent
2. One or more years of professional experience with a background in fund raising in the YMCA or another nonprofit preferred.
3. Ability to relate to community leaders and diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
4. Working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles.
5. Ability to tell the story of the YMCA enabling potential donors to understand the YMCA and how they contribute to the achievement of its mission.
6. Knowledge of the media and its use in gaining exposure for YMCA events and programs.
7. Foundation and government grant writing expertise.
8. Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
9. Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries.
