Overview
As a Senior Systems Engineer you will be a hands-on contributor of an Agile/Scrum Delivery team. You will be in an environment that fosters cross-functional collaboration, working hand in hand with all roles of the scrum team (product owner, software engineer, etc.). You will need a strong understand of Agile/Scrum development methodologies and the role that system engineering plays in developing hosted enterprise web applications. We are looking for strong, energetic, and proactive candidates that will challenge the team to strive for high scalability, performance, load, monitoring, alerting, and continuous integration and delivery.

Responsibilities
- Support our existing production systems while continuously working to improve them
- Review and make necessary recommendations for infrastructure initiatives in collaboration with your fellow system engineers
- Automate repetitive tasks and contribute to a continuous delivery pipeline
- Work with fellow system engineers to define operations best practices and standards
- Work with your delivery team to ensure best practices and standards are followed
- Key contributor to our continuous delivery pipeline
- Identify key system metrics and ensure adequate monitoring coverage for new and existing services
- Take personal responsibility for the availability and reliability of our systems
- Author tools that reliably manage infrastructure in a clean, testable, re-usable fashion
- Identify key system metrics and ensure adequate monitoring coverage for new and existing services
- Mentor other system engineers and foster an environment of growth and learning
- Serve as an escalation point for on-call personnel
Requirements
- 2 years minimum experience monitoring large-scale deployments (Sensu, Nagios, Graphite, OpenTSDB, etc)
- 5 years minimum experience of Windows and Linux system administration experience
- Strong experience with Windows & Linux scripting languages (PowerShell in particular)
- Strong experience with MySQL, MSSQL, NoSql (Redis, DynamoDB, VoltDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, Riak)
- Experience with at least two of the following: Java, Scala, PHP, Python, Ruby
- Experience with the following: C#, F#, .net frameworks
- Experience with at least one JavaScript framework: (Angular, Ember, React, Node, Backbone, Knockout)
- Experience with the following: Elasticsearch / Lucene
- You've 'carried the pager' before (ideally at both a startup and a large infrastructure provider) & have first-hand experience with what happens when infrastructure / tools fail
- A minimum of 2 years experience using configuration management tools (Chef, Rundeck, Ansible, etc)
- A minimum of 2 years experience using CI/CD tools Jenkins, Bamboo, GoCD
- Familiar with Agile / Scrum and TDD principles with a focus on infrastructure
- A distributed systems foundation and a service-oriented mindset (RabbitMQ, Kafka), RDBMS sharding/partitioning, distributed data stores (key/value and others)
- Amazon Web Services preferred, however, we will consider candidates who have strong experience with other cloud providers (Google Cloud, Rackspace Managed Cloud, Microsoft Azure) and who we believe demonstrate a strong ability to ramp up on AWS
