MedStar Health is currently seeking a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. This brand-new position will be joining a growing Endocrinology department and be working a hybrid work schedule. As a Diabetes Care Education Specialist, you will play a crucial role in providing personalized nutrition care to the Endocrinology patients. Primary Duties:
Collaborates with Endocrinologists and Nurse Practitioners in developing patient centered diabetes plans.
Completes patient's diabetes assessment and develops educational goals and a diabetes self-management support care plan based on patients' assessed needs.
Provides quality diabetes self-management education and medical nutrition therapy to patients and families in individual and group settings. Utilizes appropriate teaching techniques that are sensitive to the learning styles of the patient.
Follows patients closely (in person and via phone/video conferencing) until the patient meets program goals or is transferred to the virtual control center. May Provide distance visits by video conferencing, telephone, text, and email.
Partners with MedStar Diabetes Institute and records outcomes in Diabetes Institute database as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in dietetics, nutrition required
Previouspump and CGM experience preferred
Registered Dietitiancurrent registration required registration eligible status with the American Dietetics Associations Commission of Dietetic Registration.
Currently licensed in DC or eligible for DC licensure.
CDE-Certified Diabetes Educator credential preferred/eligible required. If not already CDE, will obtain within 1.5 years required.
