MedStar Health is currently seeking a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. This brand-new position will be joining a growing Endocrinology department and be working a hybrid work schedule. As a Diabetes Care Education Specialist, you will play a crucial role in providing personalized nutrition care to the Endocrinology patients. Your expertise will be instrumental in improving patients’ overall well-being and helping them manage their diabetes diagnosis.

Primary Duties: 

• Collaborates with Endocrinologists and Nurse Practitioners in developing patient centered diabetes plans.   

• Completes patient's diabetes assessment and develops educational goals and a diabetes self-management support care plan based on patients' assessed needs. 

• Provides quality diabetes self-management education and medical nutrition therapy to patients and families in individual and group settings. Utilizes appropriate teaching techniques that are sensitive to the learning styles of the patient. 

• Follows patients closely (in person and via phone/video conferencing) until the patient meets program goals or is transferred to the virtual control center. May Provide distance visits by video conferencing, telephone, text, and email. 

• Partners with MedStar Diabetes Institute and records outcomes in Diabetes Institute database as required.

Qualifications: 

• Bachelors degree in dietetics, nutrition required 

• Previouspump and CGM experience preferred 

• Registered Dietitiancurrent registration required registration eligible status with the American Dietetics Associations Commission of Dietetic Registration. 

• Currently licensed in DC or eligible for DC licensure. 

• CDE-Certified Diabetes Educator credential preferred/eligible required. If not already CDE, will obtain within 1.5 years required.
