What You’ll Do
The Correctional Nurse Manager (RN), directs and maintains the daily clinical activities of the dialysis unit through effective leadership, professionalism, and management of all aspects of customer service, quality patient care, and financial management. Responsible for the quality of clinical outcomes (as dictated by facility guidelines/restrictions) and standard of care provided within unit. Maintains strong relationships, regular communication, and visibility with clients (site Managed Healthcare, DOC/BOP, etc.) and physicians. Practices cost containment strategies for all major cost inputs including payroll, agency usage, inventory/supplies, and hiring while ensuring compliance with applicable company and state regulatory requirements. Tasked with the development, implementation, and continued training of unit clinical staff. Reports directly to the Regional Director as assigned.
This dialysis unit is in:
- Grovetown, GA within Augusta State Medical Prison
As in any setting, this involves teamwork and coordinating care with the health care team. In addition to the healthcare team, you are also required to maintain strong relationships, regular communication, and visibility with clients (site Managed Healthcare, DOC/BOP, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Graduated from an Accredited Nursing School
- Current RN License for Georgia & current CPR certification
- One year of clinical dialysis experience required (within the last two years)
- Management experience preferred
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and satisfactorily communicate in English
- Strong technical/computer proficiency with laptops, tablets, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Assumes “ownership mentality” of dialysis unit(s) under management and maintains full oversight for operational efficiency, clinical excellence, customer service/relationship, supply inventory oversight, and team leadership.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and coaching for all direct reports and clinical staff to maintain an engaged and productive workforce – we expect on Nurse Managers to LEAD not just MANAGE.
- Ensures all employees in the unit receive the required trainings and education according to company policy and in-line with industry standards.
- Implements and leads daily unit staff “huddles” where unit goals and objectives are discussed, and any pertinent corporate communication is delivered.
- Disciplinary Action Initiation:
- Initial Incident Reporting
- Creation of first draft of action plan (with assistance of the Regional Director)
- Implements operational efficiency improvements which may include, but are not limited to, the standardization of systems, quality control, safety, and employee and patient satisfaction.
- Implements company policies and procedures to maintain unit consistency across the company.
- Delegates tasks as necessary/appropriately to maximize time and efficiency.
Staffing
- Manages staff scheduling (including PTO and vacation planning), maintains staffing ratios established for unit, and proactively anticipates staffing needs.
- Reduces or eliminates OT.
- Reduces or eliminates agency utilization.
- Demonstrates staff retention and coordinates employee appreciation events, based on budget approval from Regional Director.
- Facilitates staff development, training, and continued education.
- Continuous PRN staff follow-up with the development and updating of PRN bench.
- Performs annual staff evaluations.
Recruiting
- Placement of hiring requests for positions of need with RD approval.
- Interviews top candidates provided by RD/recruitment team and is responsible for final hiring decision – will negotiate compensation based upon range provided by RD; compensation offered outside of pre-determined range will need to be approved by Regional Director.
- Encourages, aggregates, and reaches out to recruiting referrals provided by unit staff.
Clinical
- QAPI/CQI oversight and reporting – schedules and delivers monthly QAPI/CQI reporting to client (Managed Healthcare, DOC/BOP, etc.).
- Patient documentation oversight – strives for thoroughness and accuracy in accordance with industry/client requirements and regulations.
- Responsible for actively lobbying with client administration to eliminate any restrictions with client administration to eliminate any restrictions that may negatively impact patient outcomes, such as:
- Infection Rate
- Catheter Utilization
- AMA Rate
- Refusal Rate
- Etc.
- Oversight of staff clinical in-servicing and skills checks.
- Facilities staff clinical training and education according to Rendevor Dialysis P&P.
- Oversight of Lab collections and documentation.
- Daily staff assignments and task schedules throughout treatment day (assign to Charge Nurse if available).
- Oversight of patient education practices, and development of monthly education topics.
- Oversight of patient education practices, and development of monthly education topics.
- Oversight of unit safety, cleanliness, and infection control.
- Patient Scheduling, to maximize efficiencies for patient run times and staff payroll.
- Completion of monthly facility audits (using and audit template provided by the RD).
- Development of action plans to address any deficiencies.
- Oversight of Peritoneal Dialysis Program:
- Reviewing patient status weekly.
- Understanding PD supply management.
- Reviewing patient status weekly.
- Oversight of Biomedical needs:
- Responsible for first line of preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, disinfections and equipment life.
- On-site liaison to the corporate biomedical team.
- Acts as dialysis subject matter expert (practice constant learning and research).
Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement
- Assist with the overall development and implementation of the QAPI plan.
- Ensures adequate resources for supporting the QAPI process.
- Assists in the identification of goals and related patient outcomes.
- Coordinates, participates in and reports activities and outcomes as pertinent and required.
- Makes recommendations for revisions to QAPI activities or need for new initiatives.
- Trains personnel regarding QAPI/CQI.
- Responsible for ensuring a formal QAPI program is implemented in the facility/clinic.
- Responsible for assuring that all QAPI activities and required documentation is provided to the Quality Director, designed or the other appointed official, as scheduled and required.
Communication (internal and external)
- Client (facility level) – minimum weekly or more frequent as needed
- HAS/DON/Client Medical Director (or applicable on-site client manager)
- Custody – As needed
- Nephrologist – Communication weekly (or more frequent if necessary)
- Regional Director – Communication weekly or more frequent as needed
- Biomedical Team – as needed
- Delivery of messaging from corporate team to unit staff
- On-site facility meeting attendance – CQI, safety, etc.
Payroll
- Timely and accurate approval and submission of timecards, which will then be sent to RD for final approval.
- Timely and accurate approval and submission of time variance forms, which will then be sent to Regional Director for final approval.
Accounting
- Timely and accurate review and submission of treatment rosters within two days of month’s end.
Inventory/Supplies
- Accurate and timely submission of unit supply inventory every Friday.
- Maintains responsibility for ensuring that the unit has adequate supply inventories on-hand, that no supplies are expired, and that emergency supply levels are understood/on-hand.
- Oversight of off-schedule/atypical supply ordering while maintaining fiscal prudence.
Business Development
- Works diligently to be a great on-site partner to our client and be a company advocate to all outside parties.
- Actively listens for new opportunities within dialysis industry and sends any potential leads to supervisor.
General
- Promotes and implements Company’s vision.
- Displays excellent and professional written/verbal communication skills.

Supervision:
- This position will report directly to the Regional Director.
Work Environment:
This role exists in a hospital or in the medical unit of a post-acute or correctional facility. This role may include exposure to chemicals and blood-borne pathogens. This role routinely involves the use of both medical and standard office equipment.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to work the full schedule which may range from five to fifteen hours per day, based on the unit requirements (i.e. patient census, staffing needs, etc.).
