JOB SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the registered nurse. The Dialysis Technician performs a variety of basic patient care activities in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients within the framework of the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
Performs basic patient care activities.
Observes patients and reports unusual conditions and/or reactions to RN.
Assists with admission and discharge of dialysis outpatients.
Responds to patient’s needs.
Maintains patient environment, performs routine cleaning tasks.
Documents according to policy.
Performs on-line routine ordering.
Runs errands.
Performs R.O. system start-up, shutdown and quality checks according to unit policy and procedure.
Performs dialysis machine start-up, shutdown, operation and disinfection according to unit policy and procedure.
Performs needle cannulation of extremity accesses and dialysis treatments on outpatients under the direct supervision of RN according to unit policy and procedure.
Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.
Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures
Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education: High school graduate or GED.
Certifications required: See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and Certifications/Education Requirements Policy.
Certification: Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician certification within 18 months of hire.
Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Hand/eye coordination in order to give and teach injections, use computer, etc. Speaking clearly to communicate with patients, families, physicians and staff regarding patient condition and care.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to develop positive interaction with patients, patient families, physicians and staff in order to effectively care for the patients. Able to communicate positively under stress
Essential Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing 50 pounds or less in the assessment and implementation of patient care. Requires shift work.
Essential Mental Abilities: Must be able to prioritize multiple details simultaneously. Must have analytical and interpretive skills. Requires level of short and long-term mental faculties. Ability to function in stressful situations.
Essential Sensory Requirements: Corrected vision, hearing to normal range.
Exposure to Hazards: OSHA CATEGORY I. TASK THAT INVOLVES EXPOSURE TO BLOOD, BODY FLUIDS, OR TISSUES. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I Tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I Tasks.
Hours of Work: Rotating 12-hour shifts.
