Navistar has an exciting new opportunity for a Diesel Mechanic - 2nd shift to join our team at our Advanced Technology Center in Elmendorf, TX! The Diesel Mechanic - 2nd shift will service and repair complex mechanical or electronical systems of vehicles and lend support with in-test inspections, diagnose, and perform standard mechanical and electrical vehicle repairs. The Diesel Mechanic will help support Navistar’s Research and Development group on 2nd shift Monday - Friday 2:00pm - 10:30pm.
The Navistar Elmendorf Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is a Research and Development Facility as well as a support center for the San Antonio Manufacturing Plant that builds leading-edge commercial vehicles. The build operations department supports the R&D departments in the day-to-day operations and ensures that testing is not interrupted due to equipment failure or delays.
- Diagnoses mechanical, hardware, software and systems failures and electrical troubleshooting using established procedures
- Performs maintenance, testing and calibration of repaired products
- Prepares reports for analysis of product failure trends and service ability issues
- May communicate with field-based technicians for details helpful to failure diagnostics or repair, but generally without direct client contact
- Welding fabrication with Tig, Mig, Stick, Oxy-Acetylene
Welding skills & plasma cutting - Repair and/or replace all components of diesel engines, hydraulic, air conditioning, electrical, and suspension systems, drive trains, steering, braking, material handling, and operator comfort systems.
- Read, analyze, and interpret technical information from schematics, technical manuals, drawings and procedures, and governmental regulations
- Associate’s degree
- At least 3 years of experience supporting engineering activities and/or automotive or diesel mechanic experience
OR
- At least 5 years of experience supporting engineering activities and/or automotive or diesel mechanic experience
- Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. International Motors does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
- Previous mechanic experience involving truck and engine assembly, repair, and fabrication. Strong mechanical aptitude
- Vehicle experience that includes some of the following: commercial vehicles, off-highway vehicles, agriculture vehicles, and/or passenger vehicles
- Experience with alternative fuels, including EV (electric vehicles), and/or Propane
- Experience with Cummins/Allison/Eaton/Duramax
Training/Education as a Truck mechanic, as a Diesel Engine mechanic - Experience with welding fabrication with Tig, Mig, Stick, Oxy-Acetylene Welding skills & plasma cutting
- Knowledge of multimeter and/or module programming
- Prior dealership or fleet service experience
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office – Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint
- Experience working on heavy truck or equipment
