Job Description: Veit Disposal is seeking a Diesel Technician to complete repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy duty trucks, trailers, etc. at Veit Disposal located in Duluth, MN. This is a union position with the Operating Engineers Local 49. Duties Performs preventive maintenance to heavy duty trucks and trailers. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs to light duty trucks and trailers. Diagnoses engine mechanical, fuel systems, and chassis related issues on trucks including drive-train components, hydraulic systems, air brake and related components, HVAC, and electric systems. Uses shop equipment, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments to perform repairs. Utilizes computer systems to diagnose issues with electronic engines and emission systems on trucks. Utilizes tools for repair and maintenance of hydraulic systems. Repairs 12-volt D.C. electrical systems on trucks. Fabricates and repairs using welding equipment. Involved with maintaining a clean and safe shop environment. Communicate with supervisor informing them of issues which may affect the ability to successfully perform assignments or adversely affect Company operations. Perform roll-off container welding repairs when assigned. Documents daily repairs and work activity in company maintenance program. Other projects or duties as assigned by management. What You'll Need Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of heavy-duty truck components. Experience using diagnostic software and able to use welding equipment. Ability to adhere to all safety rules, policies, and regulations, and the ability to maintain a safe work environment. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with changing priorities and situations. Must be able to effectively communicate with coworkers and management, verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently, motivated, and be a self-starter. Assure repair decisions are performed utilizing appropriate methods and tasks are completed in a timely manner. Must be willing to join the union. (Operating Engineers, Local 49) Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Other Schedule Monday thru Friday Overtime opportunities when appropriate Must be able to pass a pre-employment, drug screen and motor vehicle record requirements Physical Demands The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by any employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
