PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Dietitian will assist the Assistant Director of Child Nutrition in managing the food service operation, by ways of product testing/development, maintaining nutritional software programs, adult and student nutrition education, and preserves all food production activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, American Dietetic Association
- External applicants must have satisfactory outcome of background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the candidate
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws, regulations, policies and best practices in areas of food service management, menu planning, food purchasing, and preparation of foods in food service environment
- Skill in recipe standardization, development and testing for quality food products
- Ability to comprehend and evaluate facts and problems associated with student food service situations
- Ability to exercise sound judgment; and taking decisive and timely action in,accordance with standard operating procedures
- Ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously and independently to meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, utilizing tact and diplomacy
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with District staff, outside organizations, elected officials, and the general public
Experience
- Two (2) years experience as a dietitian
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

- Create special diets for students based on verifiable student dietary needs
- Maintain compliance with all requirements of Federal, State, and local regulations and guidelines
- Adhere to diet restrictions and physician orders by developing menus supporting dietary care plans
- Assist in the development and nutritional analysis of all menus according to guidelines set forth by the Texas Department of Agriculture
- Collect, analyze, and utilize data to provide weekly reports and updates
- Observe efficiency and effectiveness of the program’s operations and makes recommendations concerning improvements
- Provide training for parents in nutrition, meal planning, cooking activities, and health as applicable
- Meet with vendors to review new food products
- Create and test new recipes in accordance to state and or federal standards
- Perform taste tests and nutrition education lessons with students
- Provide training and implementation for new products/recipes to managerial and cafeteria staff
- Act as Child Nutrition liaison for JISD Wellness program
- Ensure all food meets JISD food quality standards
- Work closely with central kitchen manager and procurement agent
- Oversee nutrition education and marketing
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of personnel rules, regulations, and practices
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
- Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
