SUMMARY:This position is located in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Department within Administrative Services of the Oklahoma City-County Health Department. The employee works under the supervision of the Administrator. The employee is responsible for providing nutrition education to clients through the preparation and presentation of formal classes or individual counseling and consultation. The employee will also be conducting nutrition assessments of clients, including anthropometric measurements, biochemical tests using standardized procedures, clinical or physical examination, dietary intake and a review of client economic, social and environmental factors. These various job duties and responsibilities may be performed for the main and satellite clinics. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:This is a summary of the duties and responsibilities commonly found within this classification. This position functions at the entry level (Tier 1) as defined by the Council on Linkages Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals with a primary focus on the following domains:Communication SkillsCommunity Partnership SkillsHealth Equity Skills ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Developing and updating materials and displays.Conducting classes.Evaluating nutrition status of clients.Assessing needs.Counseling.Referring clients as needed.Providing nutrition consultation, education and training.Generating reports and assessments.Driving to off-site locations to perform job duties as needed.Completes required training in support of duties and responsibilities of this position.At the direction of OCCHD Chief Executive Officer and Public Health Officer or designee, the employee will be assigned a variety of specific job duties and responsibilities as a member of the OCCHD Emergency Preparedness and Response Program Team (i.e., Bioterrorism Response Program). Also, as a member of the OCCHD Emergency Preparedness and Response Team, the employee is required to complete all necessary responder training and may be designated as a member of the first-responder team.In accordance with our designation of a PHAB Accredited health department and explicit commitment to a culture of continuous quality improvement, employees will receive Quality Improvement (QI) training deemed necessary by their supervisor.
