Job Summary

Coordinates food service activities of the dining room by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Essential Duties and responsibilities Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Assists in the supervision of the dining room staff, including scheduling, monitoring service and sanitation standards, training and motivation of the staff.
- Estimates food and beverage costs and requisitions or purchases supplies.
- Visually inspects the dining room daily and takes action to ensure the dining room is neat, clean, and organized and that all equipment is in working order and in a “guest ready” condition.
- Confers with food preparation and other personnel to plan menus and related activities such as dining room and private party operations.
- Inspects food and food preparation to maintain quality standards and sanitation regulations.
- Assists service staff employees and may occasionally perform in the capacity of any of the positions supervised.
- Above average math skills.
- Assists in seating residents and providing additional service as needed.
- Regularly monitors supplies, to include linen, glassware, china, silverware and condiments to ensure the dining room is properly stocked to meet the needs of the residents.
- Assists in the documentation and submits work orders to report items that need to be repaired and follows up with the facilities/maintenance department accordingly.
- Investigates and resolves food quality and service complaints.
- Reviews financial transactions and monitors expenses to ensure efficient operation, and to ensure expenditures stay within budget limitations.
- Establishes and maintains policies and procedures for dining standards.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Supervisory Roles
- Assigns and inspects all staff sidework daily.
- Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- May perform daily payroll edits. Adjust payroll records as appropriate. Perform end of period review.
- Observe work environment for potential injury hazards and take appropriate preventative safety precautions. Actively participate in prevention, reporting, and management of Workers’ Comp. Claims.
- Able to read and write reports, business correspondence, memos and staff performance evaluations.
- May manage staff schedules.
- Ability to effectively deal with employees and residents, which will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to diffuse anger, collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
- Ability to move through a crowded dining room to monitor activity and service levels.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Oversees the setting up and breaking down of the dining room and service areas.
- Assists in conducting performance evaluations. Coaches and counsels dining room service staff when necessary.
- Issues verbal and written instruction to the dining and kitchen staff.
- Regularly assists in conducting dining room and kitchen staff meetings for the purpose of keepingthe staff informed, provide training and to create a positive work environment.
Qualifications

- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

- Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out written or oral instructions.
- Education and Experience
- According to Title 22 requirements, employee must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six monthsto one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have basic knowledge of food preparation, service standards and resident relations and etiquette.
- Certificates, License, Registration
- Current First Aid Certification (obtained through community)
- Valid CA Drivers License
- DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearance must be completed prior to working in community (obtained through community)
- Health screening and negative TB test, must be less than six (6) months old. (obtained through community)

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the total package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives.
