Our client is seeking a motivated professional to work as a Medication-Trained Direct Support Professional in the Northern Virginia area.
Direct Support Professional/Med Tech position is a multifaceted role that involves being the direct support personnel and med aide, for our client. In addition to administering medication, the person for this role needs to ensure that our client maintains their independence and safety by assisting them with Activities of Daily Living. This person will be providing individualized care to our client, who's in need of assistance with personal tasks. Our DSP will also assist client with their everyday needs such as bathing, toileting, dressing, mobility, medication administration, and engagement in social activities. Through constant compassion, patience, and understanding, strive to maintain client's independence and dignity.
SUMMARY OF CLIENT'S DESCRIPTION OF THIS OPPORTUNITY
* Administer medication to client based on client’s medical charts. Follow protocols regarding documenting medication and restocking the med carts.
* Help with the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) for client, including toileting, showering, assisting with meals, light cleaning, and other essential daily activities.
* Work with physicians and the pharmacy to make sure that medication is ordered properly.
* Report changes in client’s medical conditions and behaviors to physicians, families, and community leadership.
* Communicate with multiple levels within and outside of the organization: including client’s, families, Caregivers, Wellness Coordinator, Resident Care Manager, Wellness Nurses, pharmacies, and doctors.
* Give emotional support to the client by treating them with respect, dignity and always maintaining a positive and cheerful appearance.
Client's Physical Requirements
* Constant use of manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills and gross motor skills with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
* Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures
* Ability to reach, bend, twist, squat, kneel, push and pull.
* Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds. 80 pounds of pressure may be placed on the associate through transfers using transfer belts or mechanical assists.
* Ability to perform repetitive movements including simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation.
* Constant standing and walking.
CLIENT'S REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
* Successful candidates will have a passion for assisting others
*Minimum of one (1) year experience working as a Caregiver or Med Tech with adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in a health care setting
* Minimum of a High School Diploma or its equivalent
* PCA, HHA or CNA (preferred).
