About the Job
The Direct Support Professional - Lexington Day Program implements an effective vocational training program for adults with disabilities and special needs and assists individuals with self-help skills (i.e. toileting, eating, etc.). The Trainer/Driver must have a valid SC Driver's license. A high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities and special needs is preferred. The physical requirements of the job involve direct care of individuals including assistance in a work shop setting as well as feeding and toileting, lifting 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally, the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, stand or walk for a long period of time, and drive and transport individuals including wheel chair bound.
Specific job duties include:
- Assists individuals with self-help skills (i.e. toileting, eating, etc.)
- Implements facilitated plans.
- Monitors individuals and completes monthly progress reports on all objectives.
- Keeps daily payroll sheets of work accomplished.
- Assists in the evaluation and placement of individuals for various jobs.
- Assists workshop supervisor in any aspect of vocational training.
- Transports individuals to and from Burton Center and on field trips.
- Keeps a daily van maintenance sheet, mileage sheet, and accountability sheet.
- Reports malfunctions immediately to transportation supervisor in writing.
- Supervises individuals during preprogram breaks, lunch, and all special activities.
- Assists with extra curricular activities.
- Provide one on one care to individual if that level of care is required for position, following plan of care of the individual, to include, but not limited to feeding, toileting, etc.
- Attends initial Burton Center staff orientation, in-services and workshops as appropriate to enhance job performance.
- Administer medications if required.
- Other duties as requested by supervisor.
