Job Summary and Qualifications
The Director, Adverse Decision Services provides remote and possible onsite support and expert consultation during survey activity and adverse decision recovery on behalf of the HCA Healthcare Regulatory and Accreditation Services Team (RAS).
The Adverse Decision Director role is designed to inform and support HCA Healthcare hospital and ambulatory surgery center (ASC) executives and administrators, as well as local governing bodies, in the recovery from a regulatory adverse decision and to return to a state of continual regulatory and accreditation compliance.
The role is critical to HCA Healthcare strategy of quality and patient safety as a differentiator of hospital and ASC operational performance. Role complements and provides guidance to division vice presidents of quality and clinical service line leadership, chief executive officers (CEO), chief nursing officers (CNO), chief medical officers (CMO), and other leaders.
The role requires a wealth of foundational regulatory, accreditation and plan of correction knowledge and the capability of sharing foundational regulatory compliance strategies with hospital and ASC staff, leaders, and executives. In addition, the role is critical to informing clinical services group (CSG) leadership of field performance, opportunities, and needs for corporate support and process (re)design. Up to 25% travel
Major Responsibilities:
•Individual serves as the expert consultant to hospital and ASC on adverse decision management and regulatory and accreditation status. Position requires expertise to guide hospital/ASC quality and risk directors in their position requirements and to counsel CEO/Administrator, CNO, COO, medical staff and board leaders in the return from an adverse decision and continuous patient care improvement in a foundationally compliant manner.
•Conducts onsite and/or virtual support during all applicable federal, state, local or private/contracted regulatory agency visits, as needed, and following any survey activity as deemed necessary by Leadership. The individual uses expert knowledge to reduce the burden on the local and clinical leadership in the recovery from and preparation for follow-up survey activity to maintain accreditation status.
•Conducts onsite and/or virtual assessments of focused topics within HCA Healthcare hospitals/ASCs including applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards reviews, emergency services, nursing services, and other clinical areas of organizational and/or patient safety and risk. Incumbent travels and/or virtually/remotely provides consultation.
•Leads and oversees the development, submission, and implementation of plans of correction.
•Designs and presents educational programs for HCA Healthcare hospital/ASC and medical staff leaders regarding requirements of clinical performance improvement for operational compliance to public reporting including the hospital quality alliance, external quality agencies including TJC Hospital accreditation programs, CMS (including CMS-regulated analytes), state survey agencies, etc.
•Position is an expert in clinical performance improvement, clinical excellence, HCA Healthcare clinical agenda, TJC Hospital Accreditation Program (HAP), healthcare licensure regulations and CMS Conditions of Participation/Conditions for Coverage. Position is critical to advancement of HCA Healthcare facility delivery of safe, effective, efficient, compassionate and satisfying patient care as defined by the HCA Healthcare clinical improvement strategies.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree required
Master's or Doctoral degree preferred
Current Registered Nurse (RN) License, Registered Pharmacist (RPh or Pharm.D.), other licensed clinical profession, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or certification supporting regulatory/accreditation/safety compliance Required
7+ years of relevant consultative and/or leadership experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
