Job Description
The Commercial Learning and Development, Managed Markets Director is responsible for overseeing advanced level training programs aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Managed Markets Teams across all brands. Ensuring curricula align with market access strategies, teams are well-versed in industry trends, payer dynamics, and competitive positioning. As a people leader, this role also entails leading, mentoring, and coaching team members to foster their professional growth, ensuring high performance and alignment with organizational goals. The Director works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that training initiatives support overall business objectives and drive success.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Supervise Managed Markets Training Director/Associate Director overseeing the execution of market access and reimbursement training initiatives.
- Assess and identify the needs, gaps, and capabilities related to access and reimbursement for all commercial products within the US Managed Markets organizations.
- Collaborate with brand/marketing teams to deliver appropriate and effective market access knowledge and skills training for field sales personnel and Managed Markets.
- Train on building skills, knowledge, and competency in the following areas: access and reimbursement ecosystem, payor landscape, business to business interactions, value proposition, contracting, negotiations, and strategic business planning.
- Align and customize market access training and development opportunities to increase knowledge and understanding of key business concepts and trends driving formulary management decisions, patient access, and provider prescribing behaviors.
- For field sales teams, training areas of focus include local marketplace landscape, insurance coverage and benefit design, patient support, utilization management, healthcare trends, and driving appropriate pull-through and push-through strategies.
- Coordinate with CL+D leadership to align all managed markets training initiatives with the Brand and Managed Markets access strategy.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to assess and identify the needs, gaps, and capabilities that currently exist within the US commercial organization related to product access and reimbursement.
- Ability to manage instructional design projects and collaboration with key stakeholders and senior leadership relevant to building skills, knowledge, and competencies related to Managed Markets, patient access, and product reimbursement.
- Continuously analyze the evolving healthcare business, regulatory and policy environment and deliver critical, relevant training at the moment of greatest impact.
- Ability to effectively manage two direct reports with scope across all therapeutic areas.
- Apply instructional design and Adult Learning principles to all training and development projects.
- Leverage technology to streamline training delivery and enhance learner experience.
- Use performance metrics and analysis to improve training and development design.
- Plan and promote team business needs.
- Financial management of team budget, forecasting, and cross-functional project costs.
- Monitor and maintain alignment with the company’s Commercial Strategy, while balancing each business unit’s short-term and long-term business goals.
- Strategic vision and market insights to access strategies by analyzing industry trends, competitive landscape, and payer dynamics to optimize opportunities.
- Cross-Functional leadership and collaboration: proven track record of leading and coordinating across various brands and teams to ensure alignment and successful execution of market access strategies and initiatives.
Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and Twelve Years’ Experience
- OR Masters' Degree and Ten Years’ Experience
- OR PhD and Eight Years’ Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- BS/BA degree with a concentration in Science, Education, Business or Marketing.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant Training and/or Sales Management experience in biotech or pharmaceutical fields.
- At least 3 years of experience in Managed Markets, Sales Management, and/or Commercial Training in a home office environment is preferred.

The salary range for this position is: $205,700.00 - $266,200.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives, paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
