The Role
Moderna is seeking a Director, Global Medical Affairs, to lead and manage the medical affairs strategy and activities for our Flu vaccines within the broader infectious disease portfolio. Reporting to the Global Medical Affairs Lead (GMAL), this role will be responsible for both developing and executing medical affairs initiatives, ensuring they are strategically aligned with the infectious disease portfolio objectives. This role will lead the cross functional matrix team (GMAT) to drive both strategic and operational aspects of data generation, integration, and dissemination activities that support the successful launch and lifecycle management of the Flu vaccines.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, capable of balancing high-level strategy with hands-on execution in a dynamic, fast-paced, global environment. Heres What Youll Do
Develop and execute the global medical strategy for Modernas Flu vaccines in close collaboration with the portfolio GMAL, ensuring alignment with broader portfolio objectives and business goals.
Collaborate with and guide cross-functional teams to ensure that medical affairs activities are strategically integrated and operationally executed in line with the overall product strategy.
Oversee the planning and execution of clinical studies, real-world evidence generation, and other data generation activities related to the Flu vaccines.
Align data dissemination strategies for Flu vaccines with portfolio objectives, working closely with the Scientific Communications team.
Communicate complex scientific information effectively across all levels of the organization, including executive leadership and external stakeholders.
Engage strategically with key opinion leaders (KOLs), medical societies, and other external stakeholders to gather insights and support the global medical strategy for Flu vaccines. Represent Moderna at external meetings, conferences, PHDM engagements and advisory boards related to the Flu vaccines.
Oversee the development of global medical education initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives in collaboration with the Scientific Communications team.
Ensure compliance with global and local regulations, industry guidelines, and corporate policies for all medical affairs activities related to the respiratory vaccines.
Work closely with regional and market teams to align global strategies with local market needs and regulatory requirements, ensuring successful implementation of medical affairs activities globally.
Heres What Youll Need (Minimum Qualifications)
Advanced degree required (PharmD, PhD, Masters in Biotechnology, Life Sciences or equivalent).
8+ years of experience in medical affairs within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, including 3+ years focused on vaccines.
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex scientific information clearly and concisely.
Strong interpersonal skills with experience building relationships with KOLs and external stakeholders.
Proven track record of synthesizing key scientific messages with accuracy and agility, particularly in high-stakes environments related to public health and vaccine strategy.
Heres What Youll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
10+ years of experience in medical affairs, with specific experience in global vaccine programs, particularly in mRNA-based or innovative vaccine technologies.
MD degree preferred, particularly with expertise in infectious diseases and vaccine-related fields.
Proven track record in managing medical affairs activities, including clinical studies, real-world evidence generation, and scientific communications.
Experience leading cross-functional teams in divers, multinational settings.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage ambiguity.
Advanced understanding of regulatory requirements and industry guidelines for medical affairs activities, particularly in vaccines.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement global medical education initiatives.
Experience representing an organization at high-profile external meetings, including conferences, advisory boards, and industry panels, with a focus on Flu vaccines and public health innovation.
