Job Summary
Battelle is seeking a Director , Information Technology & Communications (IT&C) to support the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). The USAP is enabled by Presidential Memorandum 6646, which emphasizes science as the principal expression of U.S. interest in Antarctica and its surrounding waters. The USAP operates the largest and most capable National Antarctic Program, with three permanent research stations, a fleet of aircraft and ocean-going vessels, numerous remote field camps, and talented personnel that support the diverse and challenging missions required to do this important work. The people of the USAP enable scientific advancements that impact the globe as well as local communities throughout the U.S.
As the IT / Communications Director for this program, you will be responsible for an Information Technology & Communications (IT&C) program supporting 200 scientific projects throughout the Antarctic continent. The Director will oversee all facets of the program-wide IT and communications services in support of scientific research in and around the Antarctic region and additional support locations in in the US as well as Chile and New Zealand. In Antarctica, the Director will support operations at the three permanent US Antarctic Program Stations, research vessels, and research field camps.
Responsibilities
+ Oversees implementation and integration of contractor supported computer and communications systems.
+ Ensures security of all information and computer systems and digital data.
+ Evaluates and recommends upgrades and systems for purchase.
+ Directs IT&C projects and ensure cost, quality, and schedule performance.
+ Manages IT/Communications support personnel working across multiple global locations.
+ Interfaces with NSF leadership.
+ Ensures compliance with all safety regulations and practices.
Key Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems engineering, or other relevant field that specializes in Information Technology and Communication networks.
+ 5+ years of IT/Communications supervisory experience and 15+ years IT experience.
+ Experience and understanding of Federal IT/Communication systems and FISMA/NIST 800-53 compliance requirements.
+ Experience as a CIO, network security manager or network architect.
+ Skilled stakeholder management skills, understands client relationships, expectation management, stakeholder awareness, and negotiations.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance via an Extended Background Investigation (EBI) adjudicated by our government customer.
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a medical clearance required for deploying to Antarctica.
+ Must be physically able to travel to remote and austere locations for up to several weeks.
+ U.S. citizenship is required.

+ Preferably a master’s or higher degree in computer science, systems engineering, or other relevant field that specializes in Information Technology and Communication networks
Salary Range
$156,100 - $288,700
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
