Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
We are seeking an innovative, hands-on Director to lead our mechanical engineering team to develop first-to-market products that will create the future of medical aesthetics. Products apply a broad range of internally developed directed energy sources including laser, ultrasound, and radio-frequency devices. Our mechanical team designs the chassis, thermal management systems, and precision opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies that enable these products to revolutionize patient outcomes.
The ideal candidate would have a strong track record of innovation, the ability to lead and inspire an engineering team, and experience driving product designs through all phases of commercial product development. This position provides a unique opportunity to drive innovation from the component to system level in a fast-paced, collaborative, and well-funded R&D environment.

Working within a diverse range of engineering disciplines including laser physics, power and digital electronics, mechanics, software, and biomedicine, you will have a direct impact on future Cutera devices and thereby influence the future of dermatology.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Inspire and mentor a team of mechanical engineers to develop innovative and cost-effective designs that enable first-to-market products.
- Efficiently manage team workflow to support a wide range of projects including proof-of-concept, product development, and sustaining engineering.
- Develop and maintain industry-leading tools for the group, including CAD and FEA software, 3D printers, and an in-house machine shop.
- Serve as a primary technical contributor in defining concepts for new system architectures.
- As a working manager, contribute individually to the development of new designs and design verification.
- As a critical member of the engineering department management team, help define and drive improvements to increase the quality, speed, and impact of our product development process.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. degree in mechanical engineering with at least 7 years of product development experience.
- At least 4 years of experience managing a team of mechanical engineers with a focus on leading by example.
- A track record of contributing to successful product introductions including at least one significant program from proof-of-concept through pilot production and a strong understanding of product development best practices.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and material properties of metals, ceramics, and plastics.
- Extensive experience with CAD (SolidWorks is preferred) and GD&T.
- Proven experience in structural analysis, thermal analysis, fluid dynamics, and multi-physics simulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A passion for developing creative and practical design solutions to product design challenges.
- A sense of urgency in driving projects to meet project schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in biomedical applications and medical device development is a plus.
- Experience leading product development projects is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of electronics and optics.
Additional Information
Compensation:
Cutera expects to reasonably pay in the range listed below for this position based on the city and state listed in the job posting. The actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, education, and candidate residence if the position is remote or field-based.
- Base salary: $180,000 - $220,000
