This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, innovative, and growing team. The Merch Solutions team at Sprouts is chartered with driving growth and profitability through designing business processes, reports, and insights that are scalable, analytically robust, and increasingly data-driven.
The Director is responsible for building strong Master Data Management, Governance, Operations, and Business Intelligence Centers of Excellence, equipping Merchandising teams with the data, tools and structure needed to optimize the business. The Director is a thought partner to Merchandising, IT, and cross-functional team leaders, fostering meaningful and lasting change across the organization.
This role is foundational to the development and ongoing enhancement of data-driven decision-making by improving data flow, and enabling better decisions related to buying, pricing, promotion effectiveness, and vendor collaboration. The director will also be key in shaping and implementing robust data management and governance frameworks, and ensuring the integrity, security, and accessibility of our data. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leading both the technical and cross-functional leadership aspects of data management and governance.
Overview of Responsibilities
Leadership, Collaboration, & Strategy Development:
- Design, implement, and maintain data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure data quality, integrity, security, and compliance
- Establish, modify, and document data governance strategies and initiatives. Provide guidance to business stakeholders on the implementation of data governance practices.
- Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure data governance practices meet their needs
- Partner closely with IT teams to develop scalable solutions for delivering data to the organization
- Build, lead and mentor a cross-functional team of professionals
- Drive Master Data integration, ongoing business requirements and business intelligence roadmap
- Demonstrate understanding of business value of data-enabled insights
Driving Results via Strategic Initiatives & Process Improvement:
- Understand complexities and intricacies of multiple departments & channels to ensure that proposed data/systemic approaches are scalable and work across the portfolio
- Implement and supervise processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data
- Promote appropriate application and understanding of data ecosystem including management, quality standards, governance, accessibility, storage and scalability
- Create clear roles, responsibilities and process related to Item, Vendor, and Location Master Data

- Lead a team of direct managers and indirect analyst reports, ensuring accuracy, thought process, timeliness, and viability of recommendations.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Computer Science, Information Management, Finance, Supply Chain or related field preferred
- 10+ years of experience in data management or governance roles, w/ 3+ years in leadership position
- 5+ years’ experience in retail/CPG/consulting with progressively increasing responsibility
- Expert knowledge of retail, merchandising and end-to-end process in a multi-channel retail environment
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks and data quality management
- Experience in a mid-sized company or in establishing a new data management and governance function from the ground up
- Strong understanding of SQL, MS Excel and data visualization platforms; familiarity with databases such as MS SQL Server, Oracle etc., and data visualization platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.
- In-depth experience and knowledge of statistical software (such as R, Python, SAS), machine learning packages, and/or optimization software
- Demonstrated success in communicating across various levels across organizations, aligning teams to strategic vision, and motivating teams to execute change
- Analytical mindset with detail orientation and entrepreneurial work ethic – in short, a “general athlete”
- Demonstrated success in leading teams and efforts to create process efficiencies
- Proven ability to translate data into insights and insights into action
- Ability to present and calibrate on critical challenges on the executive level
