About the Job
Reporting to the Executive Director of Career and Academic Success, the Director of Accessibility Services supports Stetson University by helping to ensure that all students with disabilities have equal access to the educational programs that Stetson has to offer, as well as empower those students to be independent, successful, and confident learners. Serving as a member and leader of the Accessibility Services Team, the Director will oversee Stetson’s compliance with ADA (American’s with Disabilities Act) and serve as the official 504 Coordinator. In addition to determining individual accommodations for students, the Director will be a resource for a faculty and staff on how to increase accessibility in general but also provide specific support to students. The Director also serves as a leader within Career and Academic Success and will work with the Executive Director and other directors to provide cohesive and integrated support toward student success. In alignment withStetson’s Strategic Priorities, the Director will promote social justice and inclusion specifically around students with disabilities to help Stetson achieve its goal of inclusive excellence.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as the official 504 Coordinator for Stetson University (position required for the institution by the ADA Americans with Disabilities Act)
- Review and accept disability documentation, assess the need for and authorize accommodations through documentation review as well as meeting with students in a one-on-one introductory interview
- Collaborate with faculty and staff, Dining, and Residential Living and Learning to facilitate and implement accommodations in the classroom and educational experience, the residential halls, and within dining
- Serve as an information resource for students, faculty, staff, and parents in matters related to disabilities, universal design, and best practices of learning acquisition for students with disabilities
- Stay current on Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA, Universal Design, adaptive equipment and software, and best practices for institutions of higher education in providing services for students with disabilities
- Supervise Coordinator of Accessibility and Student Success
- Lead Accessibility Services team, which includes the Coordinator, a Graduate Assistant, and student workers
- Oversee functioning of Accessibility Services Center space and equipment
- Maintain and lead appropriate document management within disability system: AIM
- Oversee Accommodations Budget and student employee budget; work collaboratively with the Director of Academic Success on oversight of operation budget for Student Success
- Take part in campus efforts to increase accessibility for the entire student body, such as advocating for increased physical accessibility on campus
- Contribute to social justice education initiatives to promulgate the aspect of disability as a facet of diversity on our campus and work in general to increase inclusion on campus
- Assess data related to students with disabilities and provide data-driven recommendations and assessment updates to the Executive Director of Career and Academic Success throughout the year
- Contribute leadership to the Career and Academic Success teams under the Executive Director’s leadership to include strategizing for staff development, interpersonal connections of team, and strategic planning for the department
- Support students on HattersCare, Stetson’s behavioral intervention team
- Provide success coaching to students
- Perform outreach efforts in response to student alerts within Stetson Student Success Collaborative (SSC)
- Maintain and implement new programs to enhance and ease transition to and from college for students with disabilities
- Research opportunities for grants and work collaboratively with the Office of Grants, Sponsored Research, and Strategic Initiatives to apply for grants
- Perform other intentional duties that contribute to the University mission as assigned including shared governance through community work
- Promote diversity within the units and support existing University programs designed to create a welcoming environment while ensuring academic success with all students
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency with main operating systems, such as the Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with assistive technology for students with disabilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demeanor and ability to work well with university faculty, staff, students, and the public
- Ability to be flexible in one's-work assignments
- Ability to compose, edit, and proofread documents
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in writing and oral presentations
- Ability to plan and organize one's work, to work independently with little or no supervision and to work effectively in a team
- Ability to maintain appropriate records
- Ability to understand confidentiality of all information within the university

Required Experience
- Master's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience in a disability services position
- Must have experience working with students/people with disabilities, specifically those in the post-secondary setting; as well as experience reading, evaluating, and interpreting disability documentation, such as psycho-educational evaluations
- Must have working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and other appropriate laws pertaining to higher education and disability
- Knowledge of good academic practices and ability to instruct and coach students in these skills

Work Environment: The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside on occasions throughout the year when tabling at events. May be requested to work evenings and weekends for special program events. Opportunity for a Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) with one day work from home (WFH) per week.
