The Communication department is responsible for strategic deployment of Press & Influencer Relations, Special Events and Advertising activations, engaging all media channels to support 360 Paid / Owned / Earned Media campaigns & creative projects. The ambition is to amplify institutional values, highlight the creativity and appeal of métier (product) collections and promote highly engaging experiential projects in support of Hermès USA business growth.
The Opportunity:
As Director of Advertising, you will contribute to the overall communications strategy through effective and impactful paid media activation in the US market, supporting campaigns inclusive of institutional, métier collections (product) and special event creative. The Director of Advertising will nurture the growth and development of Advertising team talents, providing team leadership to internal managers as well as the external media agency. The Director will also participate in a 360-project management committee with fellow department directors to develop activation planning according to strategic priorities, individual project / campaign objectives and budget allocations. The communication mission is to highlight the singularity of the Hermès craftmanship model, driving awareness, desirability and contemporary brand relevance in the United States market. Target audiences include loyal existing clients, press & influence communities as well as relevant recruitment audiences with high affinity for our signature brand values. Hermès pursues a unique communication approach based in a well-established tradition of creative brand storytelling vs. traditional operational marketing.
About the Role:
- Serve as a strategic partner to the Vice President of Advertising and a mentor and advisor to the Advertising team in planning and executing Hermes paid media campaigns.
- Engage as a 360-project activation team member with fellow Directors of Press & Influence and Event Production to ensure optimal and effective deployment of media campaigns. Serve as a "media expert" within the Communications department on 360 campaign synchronization and optimizations.
- Participate in progression approach to advertising bringing creativity and innovation to the table as the landscape continues to evolve. Partner with Hermès International Team to share new ideas and opportunities as they develop.
- Direct Hermès brand paid media investments across all mediums / channels. Maintain a cutting-edge understanding of the evolution of paid media, with a keen eye on evolving video and digital / media tech platforms.
- Brief media agency partners to plan campaigns, defining KPI related to each investment. Nurture high-quality relationship and level of communication with agency to ensure optimal strategic alignment and campaign results.
- Participate in allocation of budget in partnership with media agency, maximizing efficiency and impact of media spend in accordance with strategic priorities / growth drivers.
- Liaise with Paris-based advertising teams to coordinate creative delivery and align institutional brand advertising guidelines. Supervise the logistics and production of media campaigns, ensuring adherence to international brand guidelines and standards.
- Use relevant tools to monitor and optimize campaign performance measurements to ensure KPI fulfillment & quality of placements. Facilitate pre, during and post campaign results and analysis. Enable responsive and rapid campaign/project recap reporting, both on an individual campaign level as well as quarterly, semi-annually and annually.
- Act as an ambassador for Hermes with external media partners, maintaining positive relationships and reflecting brand values: humility, quality, creativity. Seek first to market opportunities with core partners, leveraging brand prestige and longevity.

About You:
- Minimum of 7 years' experience working in the media industry.
- Strategic, creative thinker with innate media storytelling instincts.
- Open to non-luxury and media backgrounds.
- Independent thinker with in-depth knowledge / experience in the current media landscape, digital, social media platforms, emerging media tech innovation. Experience in Video, CTV preferred.
- Existing network of contact at leading media companies: Meta, Google, Hearst, Conde Nast, NYTimes, WSJ Disney, Netflix, Hulu etc.
- Solid understanding of budgeting and ability to exercise appropriate judgement / common sense
- High level of attention to detail
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce, Google Analytics, Flashtalking
The range for this position is $105,899.00 - $176,499.00. Actual rates are determined based on the job, location, and individual experience.
