Job Purpose: The Director of Athletics performs professional duties in management and operations of Aquatics, Tennis, Fitness, camp management and youth programming for SHGCC. The Director of Athletics will lead, implement, administer, and evaluate a comprehensive athletics program for SHGCC.
Job Summary (Essential Functions):
- Manage and provide leadership to the Fitness, Aquatics, and Tennis team members.
- Design and implement athletic programs and camp programs to include both summer and winter programs.
- Complete and maintain budgets for each athletic program.
- Develop advertising, marketing and promotional materials for aquatics, tennis, fitness, and camps.
- Oversee all daily financial operations regarding all athletic programs and continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of department methods, procedures, and programs; assess and monitor workload; identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
- Continually identify nation-wide and local trends in the areas of youth, teens, and adults.
- Assist in the negotiation, development, planning, design, and implementation of capital improvement projects.
- Continually evaluate programs to ensure the needs of the guest and the goals of the department are being met.
- Promote health and wellness to membership through a variety of different activities, events, and programs.
- Oversee the Athletic Committees (Tennis and Aquatics/Swim). Work closely with member Chair of each Committee.
- Develop junior programs, events, and activities for the membership.
- Maintains equipment inventory and orders equipment/supplies needed for implementation of various programs.
- Monitors First Aid kit, and actively supports the safety program and related programs including following/enforcing safety rules, reporting accidents and injuries, and developing ideas for the prevention of future incidents.
- Communicate with Building Maintenance Superintendent to ensure facilities in all departments are safe, clean, and live up to the Sharon Heights standard.
- Perform other duties and tasks as deemed necessary and/or assigned by the GM.
Qualifications:
- Equivalent to graduation from a four (4) year college or university with major course work in recreation, physical education, sports management, business administration, or a related field and five (5) years of recreation program coordination experience.
- Experience as Director of Aquatics/Director of Fitness/Director of Tennis preferred but not mandatory.
- CPR and First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain within 45 days of starting work.
- Professional certifications with USA Swimming, NASM, ACE, USPTA, PTR all helpful.
- Flexible with the ability to adapt to change.
- Ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Must be able to lift 50 lbs., as well as sit/stand for extended periods of time. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, and squatting. Prolonged hours with exposure to sun, heat, rain, or other natural elements should be expected.
Salary and Benefits: This is an exempt position ranging from $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 annually, plus lesson commission. Varies based on experience.
Work Schedule/Hours: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary based on need. Frequent evening and weekend work are required.
