Job Title: Director of Construction
Reports to: VP, Development
Pay Status: Exempt Full Time / Salary – Sr. Mgmt
Travel: 35% Company Wide Travel
Position Summary: The Director of Construction will coordinate and control the construction and renovation of convenience store facilities. Provide project management and coordination of outside contractors for the successful renovation and construction of convenience stores.
Duties:
- Oversee all phases of construction projects to ensure objectives and standards of quality control, code compliance, design intent, budget, safety, and schedule are met in accordance with company’s expectations and project specifications.
- Construction project planning – monitor timelines and ensure updates are communicated to internal stakeholders
- Ensure applicable permits and approvals for planned projects are obtained
- Compile bids and contractor and sub-contractor qualifications, prioritizing factors beyond price
- Document all contractor and subcontractor details in writing.
- Responsible for collecting bids for equipment and other related vendors
- Facilitate communication with vendors, staff, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve problems, including work procedures, complaints, and construction or design issues.
- Identify project needs, suggest recommendations, and facilitate their implementation to ensure efficient project delivery and objectives are met.
- Procure and schedule materials and labor required for the successful execution of construction projects.
- Coordination of company supplied equipment for construction projects
- Monitor completion of projects for timeliness; ensure budgets are monitored and tracked on all construction projects by approving invoices and accurate statement billing of work performed
- Visit sites to ensure expected timeline is being met and work meets True North standards
- Monitor, track and report on all construction related expenditures.
- Asset verification and accounting (relative to construction activities)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements
Essential Skill Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Project management experience is the most critical requirement for this role, certification a plus
- Excellent computer skills—especially Excel and Word
- Prior construction, cost management, contractor management, project management required. Proficiency in project design, planning, estimating, budgeting and construction supervision required.
- Exposed to outdoor weather conditions in all seasons, including variable temperatures and wet and/or humid conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction science, construction management or related major preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
- Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching throughout the course of the shift. Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle or feel and reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Competent in problem solving, planning, and decision making.
