JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Design and Construction is responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and execution of construction projects. The Company has a rapidly expanding portfolio, with multiple growing brands, and rapidly entering into several markets across multiple states. This role ensures that all clinics are designed to meet the functional, aesthetic, and operational needs of the business, while also managing construction projects from inception to completion. The director will work closely with contractors, veterinarian partners and internal teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and timely projects that align with the company’s growth and brand strategy.
In this role, you will report to the SVP of Real Estate & Construction and lead a team of project managers in openings of approximately 25 general practice hospitals annually, across multiple states. This is an opportunity to work with a GREAT team within a growing company. Some local travel required within DFW metroplex plus occasional out of state travel to assigned locations.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
· Oversee and direct the flawless execution of approximately 30 projects annually, both de novo and remodel, simultaneously
· Lead and inspire a team of project managers, fostering growth and professional development
· Ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope and within budget
· Manage internal stakeholder communications and collaboration efforts
· Ensure resource availability and allocation (supply chain)
· Oversee detailed project planning - monitoring and tracking progress
· Approve changes to the project scope, schedule, and change orders
· Measure performance using project management tools and techniques
· Report and escalate issues as needed to senior management
· Perform risk management to minimize and mitigate potential risks
· Establish and maintain relationships with third party vendors and contractors
· Manage comprehensive project documentation, including prototype and construction standards
· Track project performance and adjust constraints based on financial analysis
· Ensure compliance with safety, scheduling, and reporting standards
· Attend conferences and training for continued professional development
· Develop spreadsheets, models, diagrams, and process maps to document need and CAPEX tracking
· Use software to design centers that meet both brand standards and the needs of our local DVM partners
· Work with local municipalities as well as state regulators on permitting and zoning requirements related to building and operating a veterinary business
· Perform other related duties as assigned

ATTRIBUTES OF AN IDEAL CANDIDATE
· 10+ years of commercial construction experience in a Project Manager/Superintendent capacity
· Proven experience leading a project management team in the on-time and on-budget delivery of 20+ concurrently running projects across multiple states.
· Strong ability to read and interpret documents such as architectural/structural drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
· Demonstrated success in vetting general contractors and vendors across multiple states
· Ability to present in front of peers as well as internal and external leaders
· Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills, both written and verbal
· Solid organizational skills combined with attention to detail
· Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and project management and scheduling software solutions
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, architecture, or similar field
· Ability to travel up to 30% of the time
