Director of EMS Education - Trans-Care Ambulance

Summary

The Director of EMS Educationis responsible for providing management, leadership, direction and administration of all aspects of the internal and external educational programs for Ambulance Management Services, LTD., d/b/a Trans-Care Ambulance. Designs, develops and delivers instruction for all Emergency Medical Services (EMS) positions including but not limited to Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), Paramedics, Emergency Medical Responder(EMR) and other departments that work within Trans-Care Ambulance.  This position communicates, interacts, promotes and supports EMS education in order to foster a student’s success, grow the industry and attract candidatesfor employment at Trans-Care Ambulance. This position will work in collaboration with other administrative team members for its successful completion.  

Duties and Responsibilities 

1. Participates in and/or provides technical leadership in the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of EMS educational program offerings. 

1. Responsible for planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and management of a comprehensive external and internal training program that addresses the specific training needs of the community and employees of Trans-Care.  

1. Coordinates and conducts various training courses in conjunction with other area EMS training programs.Maintains a calendar of educational programs throughout the region and coordinates course timing with other programs. 

1. Prepares the annual training budget. Is responsible for managing the training budget within established parameters.  

1. Counsel, coach and evaluate performance of instructors and students involved in the educational process.  

1. Responsible for establishing and maintaining strong professional relationships with team members.  

1. Participates in the organizational strategic planning process of developing both short term and long-term objectives.  

1. Performs other duties as directed or assigned.  

1. Prepares and delivers instruction either at Trans-Care or off-site, as needed; supervises the activities of course participants during instructional time. 

1. Evaluates learner performance, provides feedback, and develops learner remediation plans. 

1. Participates in research activities related to topics impacting emergency medical services care and education. 

1. Fulfills EMS educational program administrative requirements, to include calculation and submission of grades, maintenance of program, course, and student/participant records, and preparation and submission of data and reports. 

1. Collaborates with co-workers, peers, and others to develop innovative programs designed to meet the needs of the EMS community and EMS providers. 

1. Provides day-to-day technical guidance and training to lower-level staff/students employees, interns, as appropriate to operational needs; may participate in the recruitment of potential participants and employees. 

1. Participates in continuing professional development programs as appropriate. And stays abreast of changes and advancements in the EMS industry. 

1. Adheres to established company and departmental policies and procedures and relevant quality and safety standards. 

1. Participates in activities that promote the EMS education program to include student recruiting, and program marketing events, as appropriate. 

1. Seeks and participates in educational grant funding opportunities. 

Minimum Job Requirements 

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; at least 3 years of directly related EMS experience, to include at least 2 years as an EMS educator or similar job experience. Certification/Licensure from the State of Indiana as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic and PI (Primary Instructor); 

• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience.

1. Ability to adapt EMS curricula to reflect State requirements, local needs, and national trends; 

1. Knowledge of the delivery of emergency medical services in the State of Indiana; 

1. Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodology; 

1. Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodology; 

1. Demonstrates teaching and educational facilitation skills; 

1. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team; 

1. Knowledge of competency-based education principles and methods; 

1. Ability to contribute to research programs in area of expertise; 

1. Ability to assess student performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback; 

1. Ability to promote higher-order thinking and problem-solving among educational participants; 

1. Ability to adhere to established standards for educational quality; 

1. Ability to maintain complete, accurate educational records; 

1. Knowledge of EMS educational program accreditation processes and standards; 

1. Knowledge of information and products that enhance the planning, delivery, coordination, and evaluation of EMS education; 

1. Ability to provide technical and programmatic leadership within area of expertise; and 

1. Knowledge of current and developing issues and trends in area of expertise.
