Join the Florida Veterinary Medical Association as our new Director of Finance and Accounting! In this vital leadership position, you will not only manage our organization's financial strategy but also empower our teams with your expertise. You will oversee the financial health of the Association and its foundation, driving strategic initiatives and ensuring our operations run smoothly. Your role will entail high-level decision-making regarding budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance, all while mentoring a dedicated finance team to achieve our mission of supporting veterinary professionals across Florida.
This is a full-time, exempt position offering a competitive salary, commensurate with your experience and skillset.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and strategize all aspects of financial management, from budgeting to forecasting and analysis.
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Prepare and present financial reports to the Executive Board, providing insights and advice.
- Manage the annual budgeting process, including setting financial goals and evaluating performance against those goals.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards specific to nonprofit organizations (501(c)6 and 501(c)3).
- Collaborate across departments to support grant writing and financial planning.
- Supervise the Finance and Accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Implement and maintain financial systems, ensuring they meet the needs of the organization.
- Engage with external stakeholders including auditors, funding partners, and vendors to ensure smooth operations.
- Drive initiatives for financial efficiency and cost savings.
- Oversee payroll processes, compliance with labor laws, and employee benefits administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
- 7-10 years of increasingly responsible experience in finance and accounting, with a preference for nonprofit sector experience.
- Proven track record in financial strategy development and implementation.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting practices and compliance.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding communicator with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
- Proficient in financial software (experience with QuickBooks and Sage preferred).
- Proactive leader with strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders, including board members and committee chairs.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality in handling financial information.
- Passion for veterinary medicine and the mission of the Association is a plus!
