Director of Finance and Accounting - Florida Veterinary Medical Association

You will oversee the financial health of the Association and its foundation, driving strategic initiatives and ensuring our operations run smoothly. Your role will entail high-level decision-making regarding budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance, all while mentoring a dedicated finance team to achieve our mission of supporting veterinary professionals across Florida.

This is a full-time, exempt position offering a competitive salary, commensurate with your experience and skillset.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and strategize all aspects of financial management, from budgeting to forecasting and analysis.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
• Prepare and present financial reports to the Executive Board, providing insights and advice.
• Manage the annual budgeting process, including setting financial goals and evaluating performance against those goals.
• Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards specific to nonprofit organizations (501(c)6 and 501(c)3).
• Collaborate across departments to support grant writing and financial planning.
• Supervise the Finance and Accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
• Implement and maintain financial systems, ensuring they meet the needs of the organization.
• Engage with external stakeholders including auditors, funding partners, and vendors to ensure smooth operations.
• Drive initiatives for financial efficiency and cost savings.
• Oversee payroll processes, compliance with labor laws, and employee benefits administration.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
• 7-10 years of increasingly responsible experience in finance and accounting, with a preference for nonprofit sector experience.
• Proven track record in financial strategy development and implementation.
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting practices and compliance.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Outstanding communicator with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
• Proficient in financial software (experience with QuickBooks and Sage preferred).
• Proactive leader with strong organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders, including board members and committee chairs.
• High level of integrity and confidentiality in handling financial information.
• Passion for veterinary medicine and the mission of the Association is a plus!
