Why We Need You

As the Director of Finance and Capital Markets at Roots, you’ll have the unique opportunity to build upon existing processes while also creating new financial strategies from the ground up. Working closely with a small, passionate group of entrepreneurs, you’ll play a critical role in developing and executing strategic financial models, overseeing capital markets activities and driving our financial strategy in alignment with our real estate investment goals. This position is perfect for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and is excited about building something big.

Role Responsibilities

• Financial Modeling & Strategic Planning:
  • Develop, refine, and manage complex financial models that align with the company’s strategic goals.
  • Provide detailed financial forecasts, scenario analyses, and sensitivity analyses to inform decision-making at the executive level.
• Capital Markets Activities:
  • Lead capital raising efforts, including equity and debt financing, to support the company’s growth and investment strategies.
  • Manage relationships with investment banks, private equity firms, institutional investors, and other financial partners.
  • Oversee the structuring, negotiation, and execution of capital market transactions, including bond issuances, stock offerings, and private placements.
  • Monitor and analyze market trends, interest rates, and investor sentiment to identify optimal times and methods for raising capital.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to capital markets activities and maintain strong relationships with regulators and legal advisors.
  • Provide insights and recommendations on optimizing the company’s capital structure, balancing cost and risk.
• Investor Relations & Reporting:
  • Prepare and present financial reports and updates to investors, board members, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with investors, ensuring transparency and trust.
  • Develop and implement strategies for enhancing investor relations, including investor presentations, roadshows, and meetings.
• Real Estate Investment Analysis:
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis of potential real estate investments, assessing risks and returns.
  • Manage lending relationships and facilitating the mortgage loan processes with those lenders. 
  • Collaborate with the acquisitions team to evaluate and structure deals that align with the company’s investment objectives.
  • Monitor and assess the financial performance of existing investments, making recommendations for optimization.
• Risk Management & Compliance:
  • Identify financial risks related to capital markets and investment activities, and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Ensure all financial activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Work closely with legal and compliance teams to manage the legal aspects of financial transactions and capital markets activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics or related field (MBA preferred).
• 8 years of experience in finance and accounting, preferably within the real estate or capital markets sector.
• Strong expertise in financial modeling and strategic financial planning.
• Experience with capital markets, including raising capital and managing investor relations.
• In-depth knowledge of real estate finance, including market analysis and investment strategies.
• Highly detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.
• Comfort working in a dynamic and fast-paced startup environment.
