About the Job
Point Blue Conservation Science seeks an experienced grants administrator to oversee the management, budgeting and compliance of $75 million in federal, state and local grants and contracts. Reporting to the CFO and leading a team of 4, this position will manage multiple priorities, take initiative, and drive for quality results. In addition, this role fosters and maintains clear communication and effective working relationships with external funders and internal colleagues. This is a hybrid remote position, with a starting salary range of $140,000 to $165,000 depending on qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
As the lead for the management and operations of Point Blue’s grant agreements, this position supervises three Grants & Contracts Managers and an Accounting Administrator. This position collaborates as an equal business partner with the Program leads on proposal development, budgeting and setting financial and strategic priorities.
As Finance Director for Grants & Contracts, you will:
- Ensure accurate and timely accounting, communications, reporting, and invoicing for all grants and contracts to ensure optimum use of funding, prompt collections of receivables and accurate recognition of revenue.
- Determine the financial and compliance structures for all grant activities to track and document contract balances, expenditures, and timelines.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures and guidelines and provide relevant training as needed internally.
- Mange subcontractor and subgrantee agreements, workflows and processes. Review vendor contracts for compliance, and ensure payments comply with the funders’ requirements.
- Act as Finance Lead on Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) block grants and liaise with WCB and sub-awardees, keeping abreast of all state and agency rules and regulations affecting block grant activities.
- Partner with the CFO, Controller, and Senior Management in budgeting, analysis, strategic planning,
- Collaborate with program staff to develop proposals, identify sources for matching funds, and maximize the use of funding from multiple sources.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal colleagues and external partners.
Summary of Key Qualifications
- 7 years’ related experience in non-profit accounting or grant administration demonstrating thorough experience and knowledge of cost accounting, financial management systems, GAAP, and Federal OMB CFR-200 requirements.
- California State and Federal grant experience, including managing complex grants and contracts from conception to conclusion. Demonstrated ability to effectively navigate public funding’s various systems for proposal and payment processing.
- Track record of managing large sub-granting/subcontracting programs, creating budgets, and evaluating internal controls. Experience with state prevailing wage provisions will be a plus.
- Strong oral/written communication, listening, and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with others and influence budget decisions. Experience training and developing practical skills in others.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams. Ability to collaborate and communicateeffectively at all levels of the organization.
- Must be self-motivated, resourceful, results-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems and bottlenecks. Track record of sound judgement, with ability to both anticipate and communicate the business and financial implications of decisions made.
- Experience with Vena or similar budgeting and financial management systems. Proficient with MS Office applications and strong MS Excel skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, a related field, or equivalent experience
