We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about health sciences education and is excited about emerging trends in the field of health sciences librarianship. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Content Services, the successful incumbent will be primarily responsible for developing the vision, policies, and procedures to build on the successful operations and services of the Health Sciences Library. These services include; research and data services support, including systematic review services, instruction to clinical and academic health sciences programs, space redesign and renovation, and incorporation of new technologies into the service profile. The incumbent will need to work closely across departments and with campus administrators to ensure high quality experiences for faculty, staff, clinicians and students. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in faculty activities such as research and scholarship, faculty governance, and professional activities consistent with University standards for promotion and tenure. Specific responsibilities will include the following:
Formulate, disseminate and implement policies and procedures for the Health Sciences Library.
Provide strategic direction, lead a team, and advocate for the library's role in supporting health sciences education and research.
Lead projects related to space design, assessment, and service focused projects with inclusion of faculty and staff.
Coordinate instruction and research service activities for health sciences schools, departments, and clinical areas.
Participate in collection development activities for health sciences resources including recommendations for new tools and databases, evaluation of those tools and implementation strategies.
Serve on various committees to represent the libraries' interests with the goal of continuously assessing and improving library services in-line with circular and clinical priorities.
Identify grant funding opportunities to support the goals and expand services of the Health Sciences Library.
Required Qualifications:
Relevant advanced degree - master's or doctoral degree (foreign equivalent or higger). Sustained experience with health sciences library resources, research support services, and instruction. Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise faculty and staff. Evidence of the ability to conduct and publish scholarly research. Minimum of 5 years experience in an academic health sciences library.Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to incorporate educational technologies and learning theories in teaching environments. Experience with project management in an academic library setting. Expertise in emerging trends and technologies in academic health sciences libraries. Strong knowledge of data services and research practices in health sciences disciplines. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working at Stony Brook University.
