Job Overview: The Director of Housekeeping is responsible for overseeing the housekeeping operations at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Portland, Oregon. This includes ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, guest satisfaction, and operational efficiency throughout the hotel. The Director will manage a team of housekeeping staff, set departmental goals, and develop strategies to meet service expectations and budgetary requirements. A key focus of this role is fostering a positive working environment and maintaining a culture of service excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Management:
- Oversee all housekeeping operations, including guest rooms, public areas, laundry, and back-of-house spaces.
- Ensure that cleanliness and guest service standards are consistently maintained.
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies, linens, and guest amenities, ensuring sufficient stock while adhering to budgetary guidelines.
- Develop and implement efficient cleaning processes, setting clear standards for cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead, train, and motivate the housekeeping team, including supervisors, housekeepers, laundry attendants, and janitorial staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to ensure continuous improvement and professional development.
- Schedule staffing to ensure proper coverage, particularly during peak occupancy periods.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms and public areas to ensure compliance with Hilton's cleanliness standards and DoubleTree brand guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, including proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals.
- Work closely with other departments (Front Desk, Engineering, and Food & Beverage) to ensure seamless guest experiences.
- Guest Service:
- Address and resolve guest complaints related to housekeeping in a prompt and professional manner.
- Ensure guest feedback is collected and used to improve services.
- Work with the management team to enhance the overall guest experience and drive positive guest reviews.
- Budgeting and Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the department's budget, controlling expenses such as labor, cleaning supplies, and linen costs.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality standards.
- Prepare monthly reports on departmental performance, including labor costs, supply usage, and guest satisfaction metrics.
- Sustainability Initiatives:
- Collaborate with hotel leadership to implement environmentally friendly housekeeping practices in line with the DoubleTree's sustainability goals.
- Lead the department in initiatives such as energy-saving practices, water conservation, and recycling efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in hospitality management or related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of housekeeping management experience in a large hotel or resort, preferably within a Hilton or similar brand.
- Proven leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to manage, coach, and inspire a diverse team.
- Strong knowledge of housekeeping operations, including cleaning processes, inventory management, and quality control.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
- Proficient in budgeting, labor forecasting, and financial management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Proficient in hotel management software, such as Opera, or similar systems.
Work Environment: The Director of Housekeeping will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. While much of the role involves administrative tasks, regular physical inspections of rooms, and public areas will require walking and standing for extended periods. The Director may also need to assist with cleaning duties during high occupancy periods or staff shortages.
