Position: Director of Housekeeping
Reports to: Director of Rooms
Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt

The Director of Housekeeping will strive to always provide exceptional service to both internal and external guests. They will be responsible for oversight in the direction, coordination and management of the daily operations of housekeeping and laundry operations. Additionally, they will provide leadership, guidance and support to the management team in the areas of guest service, training, scheduling and performance management for overall successful day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities:
- Manages the staff of the Housekeeping Department. Interviews, trains and schedules the staff. Conducts Performance Evaluations and coaches staff when needed. Ensures communications and follow-up on any problems, guest requests or special requirements.
- Establishes detailed cleaning and preventive maintenance programs to ensure appearance and life of all furniture, fixtures and equipment.
- Sets and maintains high standards of cleanliness. Monitors staff’s activities to assure that standards are being met, staff is being supported and guest needs are being met. Inspects all areas of responsibility daily. Works directly with outside contracted companies to assure quality and timeliness of work.
- Resolves customer complaints, handling all guest interactions with the highest level of hospitality and professionalism, accommodating special requests whenever possible.
- Responds to all guest requests in an accurate and timely manner. Coordinates the housekeeping needs of hotel guests. Interaction with guest will be in person and by phone.
- Assures the financial goals of the department are being met. Monitors and controls labor expense and other divisional expenses such as Uniforms, Linen, Guest Supplies, Cleaning Supplies and Contract Services.
- Establishes and maintains accurate inventory records. Participates in periodic Linen, Uniform and Supplies Inventories.
- Recommends appropriate actions based on results of inventory. Assures that equipment is properly maintained.
- Prepares annual budget for labor and operating expense. Proposes items to be included in annual Capital Plan. Assures effective operation of the Laundry/Valet Department. Assists the department when needed.
- The Director of Housekeeping will lead, direct and inspire a team of leaders including a Housekeeping Manager, Laundry Manager, and 3 supervisors
Skills and Experience:
- 5 + years Previous Executive Housekeeper/Director of Housekeeping experience required, ideally in a resort/campus setting
- Previous senior leadership in luxury resort/hotel required
- Experience Managing Housekeeping in a 5 Star/5 Diamond operations preferred
- Must be able to understand, speak, read, and write in the English language
- Ability to effectively communicate and provide directions in a clear, concise and professional manner in both verbal and written form
- Excellent verbal and written communications, networking, and presentation skills (in English)
- Bi-lingual skills strongly preferred; Conversational Spanish or Arabic preferred
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks and prioritize competing demands in order to meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Subject Matter Expert Experience in Housekeeping Efficiency systems such as Alice,Nuovoa, Hotsos or similar.
- Demonstrated ability with constructive, team-centric leadership skills
- Excellent team skills, including but not limited to; listening, coaching, guiding, flexible working, adaptability, collaboration, and facilitation
- Excellent communication skills, including but not limited to; listening, asking questions, building consensus, presenting, obtaining buy-in
- Must be able to push, pull and lift 50 lbs.
- Available to work weekends, evenings and/or holidays
- Must be able to walk, stand for prolonged periods as needed
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher-level education preferred
