Job Details
The Nursing Director of Maternal Child Services is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and overseeing the standards of clinical performance for nursing and ancillary staff in the Maternal Child Pavilion. This role contributes to the organization by leading quality initiatives related to patient care and satisfaction, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, and promoting a safe environment for employees, patients, and providers.
The Director is empowered to make independent judgments within departmental and organizational policies, guidelines, and procedures. This role involves developing strategies and objectives aligned with the mission and goals defined by the Senior Leadership Team. The Director is expected to manage using Lean principles and processes with minimal direct supervision.
The Director coordinates and delivers nursing care in the Maternal Child Unit, providing clinical oversight and maintaining standards for maternity and newborn patient care. This individual ensures compliance with regulatory bodies and contributes to the ongoing education and competency assessment of nursing staff.

- Demonstrate respect and regard for all patients, families, visitors, and employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Participate in planning, budgeting, policy-making, and decision-making related to clinical operations.
- Ensure nursing aspects related to risk management, reimbursement, and financial management are incorporated into operational systems.
- Evaluate staff performance and productivity regularly, advising on corrective actions and development opportunities.
- Stay current with state, federal, and payer regulations, updating professional standards for nursing.
- Select and train qualified medical personnel, overseeing clinical competencies and ensuring compliance with patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
- Establish and maintain nursing procedures and policies, ensuring staff training and understanding.
- Collaborate with the Chief of Obstetrics and the Chief of Pediatrics to develop quality goals for the program.
- Participate in committees as appropriate, supporting Lean practices across all sites.
- Provide leadership from a nursing perspective, contributing to initiatives related to the Culture of Safety.
- Oversee clinical activities of nursing staff from a quality and regulatory standpoint.
- BS in Nursing required; MS in Nursing or Master's in Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Five years of nursing leadership experience required.
- Must have a current license to practice professional nursing in Massachusetts.
- Proficiency with MS Office and Meditech. Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships and influence others.
- Must embrace and work within the principles of Lean/Operational Excellence and the Culture of Safety.
