Currently seeking an experienced Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to fill a position with a hospital in Great Bend, KS. Interested candidates should have a Bachelor’s or Master's degree with Nursing experience in clinical and management roles, demonstrating progressive leadership development and competency.
Responsibilities of the Chief Nursing Officier
- The CNO is responsible for managing and directing nursing services and assuring that professional standards of patient care are maintained in accordance with regulatory and accreditation agencies
- Initiates, reviews and updates department goals, policies, procedures and programs. Examples of such areas of policies and programs are related to Nursing Standards of care, Nursing Care Delivery, Infection Control, Recruitment/Retention Plans, Position Descriptions and Department Educational/ Growth Programs
- Develops and monitors the department’s budget and participates in the facility’s Strategic Planning activities.
- Conducts nursing rounds and reviews the care of the patients to ensure quality nursing care and adherence to patient bill of rights, and to ascertain needs for additional or modified services
- Promotes cost effectiveness within the department by regularly examining equipment and supplies for effectiveness and economy of use, maintaining staffing practices within established budget, and by making appropriate decisions and recommendations regarding the purchase of new equipment and implementation of new procedures
- Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions
- Interprets department policies and procedures to department staff, researches and resolves staff and work-related issues and initiates plans to motivate staff to achieve goals
- Assures that nursing staff is appropriately educated to perform their jobs, properly oriented to the work environment, and have the necessary equipment and supplies to perform their responsibilities
- Assures there is effective staff scheduling to promote adequate nursing coverage and quality patient care
- Maintains nursing staff job results by coaching, counseling and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring and appraising job results
- Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies
- Facilitates monthly staff meetings to communicate concerns/issues to assure patient and staff needs are being met
- Participates in Hospital-sponsored activities (health fairs, Labor Day functions, seasonal employee committee meetings, Clara Barton Hospital Foundation fund-raising events, etc.)
- Participates in annual Strategic Planning sessions
- Participates in Kansas Hospital Association activities, as requested
- Serves as a member of the following committees/meetings: Quality Improvement/Risk Management, Infection Control, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Policy Committee, Safety, Revenue Cycle, Board of Director’s Executive (if requested), Department Manager and others, as requested
- The CNO may perform additional duties as requested, agreed upon or required
- Requirements of the Chief Nursing Officer
- The CNO must be a graduate of an approved school of nursing and hold a current Kansas license as a Registered Nurse, in addition to documented nursing experience with progressive leadership experience. A Baccalaureate Degree or higher is preferred but may substitute years of experience in lieu of education. The incumbent must have effective skills in management and leadership, effective verbal and written skills, and effective skills in integrating nursing services and programs with all hospital services.
Compensation of the Director of Nursing. Starting annual salary range for this position is $100,000-$120,000, depending on experience.
