About the Job
The primary responsibility of your job position is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of our Nursing Service Department following the current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern long term care and assisted living facilities. You are entrusted to ensure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our Villagers at all times.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Care Coordination
- Coordinate villager care with other departments.
- Perform administrative duties such as: completing medical documents, reports, evaluations, studies, charting etc.
- Evaluate accident/incident reports and implement interdisciplinary solutions
- Assure adequate supplies are available including but not limited to pharmaceuticals, villager personal supplies and equipment
- Review and/or prepare plan of care for each villager that identifies the problems/needs, indicate the care to be given, goals to be accomplished and which professional service is responsible for each element of care.
- Coordinate with outside agencies including but not limited to; hospitals, hospice, home health, lab, x-ray, DME companies, etc.
Supervisory
- Develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the nursing service department
- Develop, organize, implement and evaluate programs and activities including but not limited to; restorative nursing, Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) etc.
- Prepare, plan, schedule and participate in nursing in-service meetings
- Determine and ensure appropriate staffing to meet the needs of the villagers
- Interview, select and assist in on-boarding of qualified staff for the nursing services department
- Provide employee reviews, employee feedback, corrective actions and determine dismissal of nursing services employees
- Make rounds to assess quality of care performance and teamwork by employees, assuring quality service and safety
- Maintain confidentiality and rights of villager, family, employee and facility information in compliance with PHI HIPAA policies and applicable regulations and company policy
- Follow agency procedures when purchasing items on behalf of the agency.
- Follow agency policies and procedures in carrying out duties.
- Advise supervisor of concerns and problems that arise within the agency.
- Safeguard all Bluestem Village funds and property, including those individuals in our care.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Administrator, and/or designee.
- Other reasonable duties as may be assigned.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of computer systems including Point Click Care
- Working knowledge of long-term care and skilled nursing state and federal regulations
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures and standards of care
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience: Must have, as a minimum, three (3) years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, long-term care facility or similar facility and preferred to hold a Bachelor Degree.
License: Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as RN in Colorado, CPR Certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Is subject to difficult and emotionally upset villagers, family members, personnel, visitors etc.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a mental and physical examination
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and /or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 ft. and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 Ft.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of villagers during emergency situations
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Moves intermittently during working hours
- Is subject to frequent interruptions
- Is involved with villagers, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances
- Is subject to difficult and emotionally upset villagers, family members, etc.
- Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary
- Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
- Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants
- Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses
- May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals
OTHER:
- Must possess a valid and unrestricted Driver's License
- Classification: Exempt
- Maintain confidentiality and rights of villager, family, employee, and facility information in compliance with PHI HIPAA policies and applicable regulations
- Maintains safe work environment and exhibits safe work practices
- Pass background, CAPs and pose no direct threat to the health or safety of individuals in the workplace
- COVID Vaccine or Qualifying Exemption Required.
