About the Job
The Director of Nursing (DON) will be responsible for overseeing and managing all nursing services within the nursing home. This includes supervision of resident care, coordination with medical providers, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. The DON will also oversee other key functions such as pharmacy services, therapy services, and resident activities to ensure holistic care for all residents.
Additionally, the DON will monitor staff performance, manage staff recruitment, retention, and development, and ensure ongoing training to maintain high-quality resident care. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to enhance resident well-being and satisfaction is also a key responsibility.
Responsibilities are but not limited to:
- Defines and maintains the standards of nursing practice in the institution.
- Assesses the quality of care rendered.
- Initiates the development of policies and procedures that govern nursing services and other services under his or her supervision.
- Verifies employee credentials under his or her position supervision.
- Collaborates with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services for improved patient care and staff development.
- Plans, develops, and implements a budget process for staffing and services rendered.
- Evaluates the quality and cost-effectiveness of staffing and services within the goals of the hospital.
- Serves as a spokesperson for nursing matters and represents the hospital with professional nursing and related organizations.
- Participates in meetings and committees.
- Encourages and supports research and improvement studies that can make meaningful contributions to the quality and economy of nursing services.
Education and Experience:
- Must have a current RN, NJ state license.
- At least 1 year experience as DON in long-term care setting
- At least three years of supervisory experience under a Nursing Department, preferably in LTC setting.
