DIRECTOR OF NURSING
GENERAL STATEMENT:
While this position specifies responsibilities, requirements and duties in certain operational areas, this person is an employee of Independent Living Services, Inc. and will be expected to respond to such requests not specifically contained herein. This person must maintain the attitude that he/she works for the whole organization, and as such, exhibit proper cooperation, enthusiasm and interest in all areas deemed necessary for the continuing success of ILS services. Knowledge of all policies and procedures of ILS and related corporations and Creative Living, Inc. is required. Knowledge of agency services and support system is required.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Nursing will be under the administrative supervision of the Executive Director. This person will be familiar with policies, procedures of ILS/CLI, Federal and State laws/regulations and follow the Arkansas Medicaid guidelines. They will also consult with managers and staff as to medical concerns and questions of all consumers. The Director of Nursing acts as a representative of the organization; and performs other duties as assigned. This position is a member of the Executive Team. This is a salaried position.

- Completing all necessary documentation to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations. These may include, but are not limited to: daily data sheets and clinic notes, attendance logs, time records, incident reports, behavior reports, accident reports, seizure reports, etc.
- Maintaining strict confidentiality for all consumer information, and facility operations
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and monitor the delivery of health care and related medical services throughout the agency.
- Provide staff and consumers with in-service instructions as needed in health and safety related areas.
- Provide Med Management Training to employees.
- Provide TB skin tests to employees as required.
- Set up a Vaccine Shot clinic every year for consumers.
- Assist with paperwork for consumers as necessary, i.e., camps, Special Olympics, etc.
- Provides medications to individuals attending Profiles / Profile Productions.
- Attend meeting as requested by Managers
- Orders personal protective equipment (gloves, masks, etc.) for the agency.
- Communicate with local pharmacists and doctors as needed.
- Provide consultation nursing as requested.
Medication Administration Records:
- Leads project to move MARS to an electronic format for CLI, Waiver and ADDT
- Ensures MARS are in place and accurate at CLI.
- Review medical charts, MARS and medications of the residents;
- Works with support managers to ensure MARS are in place and accurate.
- Conduct periodic audits of MARS to identify potential errors and take appropriate action when errors are identified.
Creative Living Duties:
- Attend annual staffing of the CLI residents and new admission.
- Provide an annual staffing report for residents of CLI or new admission of CLI prior to staffing or admission;
- Provide quarterly nursing reports or physical evaluation on the residents of CLI as required;
- Be present for the quarterly pharmacist visit and assist in medication disposal;
- Supervise the Creative Living nurses to include assisting with interviewing, training, and disciplining.
- Provide training for the medication pass nurses when needed or necessary;
- Be available for consultation for medical issues and emergencies involving CLI residents; and
- Be available to administer medications for CLI when no other LPN is available to work.
Additional Job Duties
- Assist in the development of periodic management reports.
- Meet with the board of directors as requested.
- Provide assistance to other directors and managers establishing teamwork and open communications
- Develop and implement strategic planning for long term needs.
- Participate in all staff meetings and staff trainings as required.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information received regarding ILS and the confidentiality shall be in compliance with ILS non-disclosure policy.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold a valid, active license for Registered Nurse, prefer five years' experience. Provide proof of current nurse's license. Have the ability to observe behavior and determine needs based on these observations. Have the ability to evaluate, review and maintain all records pertaining to residents' needs and the implementation of programs in meeting those needs. Have knowledge of training techniques and strategies as they apply to the developmentally disabled. Have the ability to communicate clearly with staff & consumers through use of the telephone and other verbal means. Knowledge and experience of working with people with developmental disabilities is preferred.
