Qualifications: The Director of Nursing must be licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Florida. The Director of Nursing must also have at least one (1) year of supervisory experience as a registered nurse in a licensed home health agency or a facility licensed under F.S., Chapter 395 or under part II or part III of Chapter 400 (such as a hospital, ambulatory surgical center, or assisted living facility).
Reports to: Administrator, Board of Directors
Duties
1. As a direct employee of the agency, the Director of Nursing supervises or manages,
directly or through qualified subordinates, all personnel who provide direct client care.
2. Ensures that the professional standards of community nursing and home health care
practice are maintained by all direct care staff providing care to agency clients.
3. Coordinates the safe delivery of home health services to group home residents and field
patients. Ensures that home health care services provided reflect upon and support the
agency’s mission, vision, and values.
4. Maintains and adheres to agency procedure and client care policy.
5. Establishes service policies and procedures and administrative rules that generally
conform to recommended Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Occupational Safety and
Health Agency (OSHA) guidelines for safety, universal precautions and infection control
procedures.
6. Assists with Human Resources management and ensuring that a qualified, competent staff
is retained by the agency at all times.
7. Involved in the orientation of new agency staff, as indicated.
8. Evaluates nursing personnel on their performance of job specific responsibilities.
9. Oversees and implements the agency’s Performance Improvement Program and quality
assurance initiatives.
10. Performs competency assessments for direct care staff, as indicated.
11. Keeps agency personnel up-to-date on current health care practices.
12. Ensures the agency adopts policies for and keeps records of criteria for admission to
service, case assignments and case management.
13. Conducts case management and assignment, as indicated.
14. Assures that the confidentiality of client health information is always maintained.
15. Ensures that case assignment, case management, and services provided are appropriate,
adequate, and consistent with a client’s plan of care, medical regiment, and assessed
needs.
16. Assures that nursing and other services provided to clients are adequately coordinated
and controlled by the agency.
17. Oversees and is responsible for the implementation and oversight of the agency’s
Infection Control Program.
18. Abides by the agency’s Code of Conduct.
19. On call 24/7 to support call outs of floor staff.
